I have never wanted to reach into a book and smack a character so hard! Well I take that back there are a couple… Anyway this is an AMAZING story! I cried way too hard at the end but then was laughing my butt off in the epilogue! I CANNOT wait to start reading the second book!
I’m terrible about not spilling things. Just know the characters are amazing, the friendships feel real and the steamy scenes are STEAMY! Highly recommend!!!

About this item
Long before the world bowed down to the band Whispered Words, they bowed down to me.
I was a simple girl in a small town, working two jobs and juggling college full-time—all in the name of a better future.
Until them...Kieran. Cal. Ash. Rad.
They marched into my world like a hurricane, infiltrating every aspect of my life and taking control until they owned every inch of me.
I became their obsession.
Their toy to use.
And I ate up every second of it.
Looking back, I should have run in the opposite direction the moment they mentioned my family name. West. I should have known they were only chasing me for my father, Corbin West's multi-million-dollar music legacy.
But I didn't. I stayed. I loved. And then I was wrecked.
Every fortified wall I erected, they beat down until I was left in shambles, and then they shattered me to pieces.
Music. Lies. Love. Betrayal. S*x. Money. Rock and roll. It all amounted to a whirlwind romance full of deceptive destruction and betrayal.
My name is River West, and this is the story of how Whispered Words loved me, used me, and tore my heart in two, leaving me when I needed them most.
*Bitter Notes is book 1 of 2 and will end in a HEA.
*Bitter Notes is a full-length mature, contemporary, new adult romance. Full of love, spice, rock and roll, and betrayal. This book is meant for a mature audience and is recommended for 18+.
*Bitter Notes is a whychoose novel, meaning the FMC has more than one love interest. FMMMM

???? Bitter Notes ???? (Book 1 in the Second Sets Duet) by Aly Beck
ℝ????????????????????: 4 ⭐️; 4 ????️
????????????????????????:
???? I’ve never met a book more infuriating than this one. At points I was rooting for every single person in this book - at other points I wished River would’ve just stuck em all with her ???? and moved along.
???? This why choose / rock star romance - took me by surprise. For one - it is LONG AF. Over 500+ pages 1 and the chapters were averaging 20 minutes a piece - this is why I docked the ⭐️ rating. I cannot for the life of me understand why authors subject their readers to 20 minute chapters in 500+ page books - it makes the reading experience so unbearable at times.
???? I was super invested in this story AFTER making it about 6 chapters in and getting to know more of the characters. But this book was a lot of work. Was it worth it? Yes. But good grief.
???? River is from the wrong side of the tracks - managing a bar where she runs into not only the kid she grew up with who saved her at every turn - but also the man behind the drums that saved her at her most vulnerable. She meets Kieran (again), Rad (again) Asher & Callum and helps them build their brand so they can escape their ???? lives - only to be ruined by them when they see something and perceive it as something it isn’t - all of this orchestrated by Asher himself. This drove me BONKERS - because I was ROOTING FOR ASHER.
???? I don’t know if I love this book or I am ANGRY at this book. I swear I thought River had smoke coming out of her ears in this book - I was raging FOR HER.
???? Honestly, this book is great - you just gotta be ready for the whirlwind ????️ ???? ???? ride! Thank goodness it’s a duet and I can get answers cause I truly hope she puts them through the wringer!

Holy heaven! This book was fantastic for sure my first why-choose as well as rockstar book! I was enraptured at every moment and super excited to start the next book! River is an absolute treasure of a FMC! She’s got the spunk the backbone and she’s strong as hell! You’ll love her through it all and feel all her emotions at the same time!

Review
This is my first read by Aly Beck and man did she wreck my heart with River’s story. This was absolutely incredible and I could not get enough.
This is River’s story and how the men in her life, Kieran, Cal, Ash, Rad loved her and were OTT possessive, protective and obsessive about her and towards her. But then used, betrayed and destroyed her to get a deal with a father that kicked her and her mother out when she was a child left in poverty and to struggle through life. Pumped full of love, lust, lies, betrayal, and a whole lot more.
This is the first book to their story and it lays it all out for us as to what and how things went bad between River and the men. Reading how they treated her and the things they did to her just to make a name and a deal for their band The Whispered Words will leave you feeling heartbroken and betrayed for River and craving revenge right along with her. River is a strong and independent woman and she quickly becomes your favorite character. The guys well you will definitely have a love hate relationship for them. The ending to book one was awesome and am seriously looking forward to the next book and finding out where Aly takes us and if River gets her revenge or if the guys make things right. Highly recommended new series!!!

Enjoyable but hated the ending.

I kept having to remind myself that River was only 19. I frequently got annoyed at her inner monologue about just how horny these guys made her. We get it, they're hot future rock stars but repeatedly being unable to think or function just because one of them looked at you from across the room is a little much.

.
Technically a spoiler but this is mentioned in the trigger warnings at the beginning of the book so...
.
Pregnancy. A classic and frankly annoying trope when it doesn't fit the story. River very clearly and specifically says she's on birth control and uses condoms religiously because she doesn't want a kid at her age. About halfway through the book she even states, "But no babies for me, thanks. I have life aspirations that don’t include children until I’m at least thirty." Yet, she decides to keep the baby without any consideration for abortion, which her previous statements indicate would, at the very least, be something to think about, whether or not she went through with it. This is especially the case given the fact that she's working 2 jobs, doing an accelerated degree program, her mom is ill, and she's only 19. Her whole thing throughout the book was working as hard as she could to escape poverty, having a child is a big undertaking at any change or income. A character can change their minds on things, of course, but not dropping any little crumbs along the way or providing a thought process to explain the change is lazy writing just so the author can include a very obvious trope.
Also, shame on the medical staff for not advising that antibiotics can interfere with birth control. They surely would have a lost of any meds she's on before prescribing anything like antibiotics and pain killers. Sigh.
.
More spoilers, for real this Time
.
.
So, instead of dealing with this plot slip in a reasonable way, the author just *bippity boppity boo* brings in the estranged brothers and a minimum $20 million inheritance that allows her tie up loose ends and fund her closest friends and found family and off she goes to California.
I will be reading the 2nd book because the story is good, overall, and I want to see how River handles things 5 yrs later. I hope there isn't another disappointing random twist to ruin that book, too.
