Heed the author warnings if you’re triggered, because it’s a lot. There isn’t just one occurrence and the topics of SA are woven through the story.

Claire Contreras has written a story with excellent character development, events that unfold as one expects, romance and the spicy scenes that enhance it all. Lyla is complex and unfolds like a butterfly. She’s numb and covered up, silent. As she grows in friendships, acceptance of the past and possibilities of love not heartache, her colors brighten. Completed unfurled and spreading her wings is magic. She’s strong, capable, devoted, loving and it all plays out with Mr Duke nearby.

This book is perfect for reading at bedtime or an afternoon on the sofa. It’s not a beach read but could be good lounging out by the pool. The spicy sex scenes might require you to have privacy though, ahem. Woo, it’s a good one! Highly Recommend.

I absolutely loved this one! I wasn't sure where it was going at first because the prologue didn't have a time stamp on it and I wasn't sure when it took place, and I was afraid at first that Lachlan was the stalker in a bad way. But it all worked out!

I loved these characters! They were strong and lovable and compelling and heartbreaking. I loved getting to see their struggles and triumphs and see their characters grow and learn and become happy. Their Present timeline was impeccably done with the anger on his side and the sadness on hers until they discovered each other's secrets and why they felt that way. The side characters were amazing! I loved Marissa and Prescott and Banks! I really want stories for all of the side characters and the other hockey players!

The only reason this isn't getting 4.5 or 5 stars is because there were times that the writing felt lackluster and like I was being told things instead of experiencing them with the characters and it took me out of the story.

The beginning of this book was a little slow for me. All I wanted to do was get to part 2 so that I could read about how Lachlan was going to get his revenge on Lyla. That being said, I still loved the beginning. It was nice to see how they met and what happened before Lyla broke Lachlan’s heart.
This book is filled with love, sadness, humor, sexual assault, and pain. But it is definitely worth the read. I’m not going to say too much about the story because I don’t want to give anything away, but the love between Lachlan and Lyla makes my heart ache. They only knew each other for 3 months, but that was enough for both of them to fall hard. Watching them fight to get back to each other was amazing. The things that they did for ever other makes me wish I had both of them in my life.
Please give this book a chance! It might be triggering for some and does have some content that some might not want to read, but if that’s ok with you, then you won’t regret it!!

Kinda dark and definitely worth it.

Can I get a cinnamon roll hero, with a side of total possessiveness who’s also a hot hockey player? Yes, please! This book isn’t what I’d categorize as a dark romance or an angst filled one. Honestly, it doesn’t fit neatly into any category but I definitely ate it up and totally enjoyed reading it. This story has a little romantic suspense, a little forced proximity, a lot of don’t touch her, she’s mine vibes, and a very swoony romance.

Told in two parts, the past and present, Lachlan is a player who doesn’t really care who his nightly score is since he’s mostly focused on hockey. All that changes when he meets Lyla. She’s hidden her beauty behind oversized clothes but she’s got a sharp wit and a closed personality after trauma a few years ago. And then, he chases her, the guy who never cares, starts to care, and the girl who can’t feel has butterflies. There’s an entire backstory that tears them apart and ultimately find them again in part 2.

This book is the same but different if that makes any sense at all and I definitely recommend it! I will definitely be reading another if Claire Contreras’ books. 5 stars, 3 peppers.

It’s weird. The book itself is choppy and full of layers that make it almost tedious. There is so much unnecessary information and then not enough necessary information. The character development is seriously lacking and slightly frustrating. They’re basically the same people. They never lose their childish antics from college. Kudos to Lyla for wearing the wire and getting her own evidence. But it’s also seriously unrealistic that nothing could have been done to prevent this entire book. Also, there is only two hockey scenes. Kind of annoying. As for Lach’s stalking, it’s basically non-existent. Everything you think you’ll get from this book, you won’t get it. It’s also way too long for the story itself. Overall, this is a college romance with an arrogant jerk and an emotionless chick. She “HAS” to leave and it takes him three years to find her. He’s still a jerk, but much more so. They guilt trip and manipulate one another and then it’s a HEA with a cheap and easy sense of “justice”. It’s not bad, but it’s not great.

Y’ALL. I have seen so many mixed reviews over this book but I actually really really liked it. What an absolute emotional rollercoaster! It’s been awhile since I’ve read a suspense-focused story. I loved the plot, the characters, the ✨drama✨. This book is a dark romance, and some content may be triggering, however while this story was emotionally-devastating, it also featured a very raw and heartwarming romance.

While this book is coined a “hockey romance”, hockey wasn’t actually a huge factor to the story. However, this really does not deter how enjoyable it was to read. The characters were super genuine for me. Our characters are put into an insane situation, and this story features not just how trauma can shape someone but also what it looks like to overcome it. This story is about the beauty in strength. This story is gut wrenching but I LOVED these characters.
