This book was hyped as a page turner, gripping, with a twist. I thought it was incredibly predictable. Heroine turns from one perfect man to her knight in shining who is of course sketchy and ultimately the villain. The only mildly unusual feature was the hinted at but never fulfilled relationship between the two women.
My main complaint was that I loathed the heroine. Every scene, every fight, every emotion she turned into a whiny self examination where she always came up short. She had no spine, no real redeeming qualities. She was so busy feeling sorry for herself for not having the husband, baby ,and picket fence, she missed most of what was going on around her. It took her three or more episodes of “black out” drinking to realize she was being doped. Just couldn’t stand her. There was that soap opera constant of starting a conversation and then not finishing. I could hear the rising organ music.
When you find yourself skimming pages, it’s time to move on.
