About this item
When romance novelist Kate Smith suddenly gets writer's block as she's beginning the final installment of her international bestselling steamy Bed 'n Breakfast series, she'll do pretty much anything to get her groove back.
Like sneak into a Tire Depot waiting room because her words flow there just like complimentary coffee-smooth, sweet, and scorchingly hot.She manages to fly under the radar until the rugged and charming mechanic, Miles Hudson, notices the quirky redhead slinking in and out of the employees only entrance. But she's way too intriguing to blow the whistle on. Doing a test-drive of her new book idea sounds like a much better option.

Wow.. I like this book. A lot. TBRA for sure. I like the chemistry between Kate and Miles. Their story is relatable..Normal kind of relationship where I can relate to. Lots of funny moments which I like in a book. Possesive hero.. And kick your ass kind of heroin. The way they met is so cute and funny.. I fell in love with both of the characters from the first chapter. Love how possesive Mile is and how Kate compliment his characters. Love the extra characters too. Love the ending. Can't wait to read about Sam.

I read this book as the August selection of the #readmoreindieromance buddy read & enjoyed it! I read book 4 a few years ago & I think I’ll read the entire series, with a re-read of book 4.
The premise of this book is really fun, especially considering some of it is true (Amy says the writing in a mechanic’s shop part but not the steamy parts ????)! Miles was a great book boyfriend & I enjoyed how Kate talked him through the process of writing a book as the book was progressing.
I’m looking forward to reading about the other side characters!
Things that I enjoyed:
- The camping trip
- Kate trying to “keep things casual”
- the adult conversation between Kate & Dean
- Miles’s garage & future plans with Sam
- the flow of the book was fun & the intentionality of how their relationship progressed as Kate explained different devices to Miles
Things I didn’t love:
- Drysten (the name, the character, his mere existence)
- it felt like the drama was constantly part of the story, and then extended the book a chapter or two too long
- I wish Miles had realized he had legitimate feelings for her in at least one scene before the grand gesture
- Kate felt a little too desperate for his love, showing him how much she cared constantly while Miles was mainly jealous & keeping her arms length (mixed signals anyone?)

small town, FWB, sexy "research" for a book, secret identity
Book 1 standalone in series
Kate is a small town erotica author writing under the name Mercedes Lee Loveletter. After a stint of writers block, she finds some inspiration after seeing one hot twizzler weilding mechanic after setting up office in the waiting room of a tire shop. Pretty soon, it's not the delicious baked goods and coffee that keeps her coming back. Eventually they can't deny the chemistry and strike up a FWB deal for "research purposes" for her new novel. Unfortunately, Kate conceals her identity so Miles only knows her as Mercedes. Ruh Roh...
I actually accidentally read Dean's book (#4) first, so I had to come back and check out Kate's story to see the origins of Dean's crush on her. I am usually really picky when it comes to FMCs, but I adore Kate. I found her to be so likeable, funny, seemed like someone that would be a good friend. Miles was super swoony, definitely good book boyfriend material so I totally understand what Kate picked up on when she got with him. There are some really great funny moments, and Amy writes some good spice. Really excited to check out the rest of the series with the rest of the friend group.

This is my first Amy Daws story and I can kick myself for not having read her before, but I’m glad to have a long list in her backlist.
The story between Kate and Miles was funny and delicious. I like stories when authors write their characters being writers, just makes it more fun. Their chemistry just jumped off the pages just like their banter. The story kept me glued to the book until I got to the last page.
Great story, now I have to make my way through this authors other books.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

I enjoyed this one. Made me want to see what happens with the rest of the gang. It was funny not as aren’t as I’d expect. Read it over a couple of days. Really want to know what happens with Lynsey but I’ve already got that book in my library. Trying to decide if I should read them in order.

Sweet Meet Cute Story
Reviewed in the United States on March 24, 2023
I'm excited to read this book and watch the soon-to-come passionflix movie. I have loved other books by this author.
Kate is a writer who writes smut; according to her, she uses a pen name. Lately, she has been finding inspiration and a cure for writer's block at The Tire Depot. She is funny, a little crazy maybe, but also full of personality. I love her pov as it is easy to read.
The author even manages to use terminology I need to familiarize myself with. Miles is a mechanic at The Tire Depot who happens to notice a certain red-headed lady as they collide in a happenstance that is comical. He has a history of being the savior to damsels in distress. His pov is interesting as he hyper-focuses on her body parts. His meet cute encounters with Kate at least have some awesome banter.
One thing leads to another, and we finally get a direction for these two characters. Oh, this story gets a little steamy and kinky. The agreement they come to, on an awkward morning after, sets us up for the rest of this book. Ok, their research is hot and steamy and well described in the book.
This book has its ups and down and a little drama, but it does end happily. The not-so-secret secrets will be what causes the drama in this causal but not-so-casual friends-with-benefits story. I may see camping trips differently after this book; wow and steamy.
I like the character in this story; they are authentic, albeit on the sizzling side of the romance trope with steamy scenes in this book. The book has a sweet friend with benefits and meet cute story with lovable characters and true-to-life issues. Both characters are between new adults and midlife. Extra perks for the book being about an author writing romance stories. The camping scenes were my favorite; after that, I started scanning thru the intimate scenes as they were numerous. I like how the author ended the book; it was very true to the characters and storyline.
I look forward to seeing this portrayed on film.
