Book Review – The Price You Pay – Nick Petrie
I have read and reviewed all of Nick Petrie’s Peter Ash books and this one, “The Price You Pay” is probably the best of the now eight-book series. It is a real doozy! Whenever protagonist Peter Ash needed help in many of the previous books, he would always turn to his closest friend, Lewis – a former criminal – who never hesitated to help Peter whenever he needed it. But this time, Nick Petrie changes things up a bit in this story with Lewis being the one needing Peter’s help this time around. In this tale, Lewis asks Peter to help save his wife and kids from a past criminal associate who is seeking payback on Lewis from their criminal past. Matters get ugly and there is no way that Lewis can handle the ruthless situation alone. So, in steps Peter Ash – a magnet to danger and disruption – to help his closet friend resolve the unfortunate circumstance. The Price You Pay is a cleverly written tale totally immersed in intense violence, astute plotting, and planning, substantially developed personalities, and remarkable resourcefulness. Petrie’s prose was extraordinary. The story was extremely enticing and alluring. Peter and Lewis’ resolve of the occurrences was incredible, and Petrie told it so vividly. The narrative, the characters – good and bad – the uncertainty and the thrilling action were all exceptional. This is an amazing crime thriller novel of the highest caliber. A notable read that I highly recommend.
