A Small Town with Big Secrets

In the quaint town of Hart's Ridge, Deputy Taylor Gray is a force to be reckoned with. From clawing her way out of poverty and foster care, to achieving her dream of being in law enforcement, Taylor is determined to make a difference in her community. But when a five-year-old girl named Molly walks into a gas station alone and barely speaking, Taylor's determination is put to the test.

As she delves deeper into the investigation, Taylor discovers that even the most idyllic towns have their secrets. But this time, the stakes are higher than ever before. With a true crime element woven into the narrative, the search for Molly's missing mother becomes a race against time to stop a predator before it's too late.

As Taylor navigates the twists and turns of the case, she also grapples with her role as the unofficial caretaker of her fractured family. With a heavy burden on her shoulders, she'll stop at nothing to piece them back together and find justice for those who can't speak for themselves.

Join Kay Bratt in Hart's Ridge, the first book in a thrilling new small town mystery series that will leave you on the edge of your seat. What readers are saying about the Hart’s Ridge series:

Great mystery, great characters ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is a small town police novel, and it’s nice to have a mystery that doesn’t start out with a dead body. Our sheriff’s deputy has a lot of backstory and things going wrong in her life, but she keeps plugging away and doing the right thing. And she’s sharp! Molly, the little girl, your heart, and doesn’t let go. The mystery came to a very logical, satisfying conclusion with a side twist I didn’t see coming. The secondary characters, from a boss who is both supportive and demanding to another deputy who is a slimeball, to a detective from her past, to a foster mom you just want to wrap your arms around and thank for everything she does, are all great. A very well rounded cast of characters. Goodreads Reviewer

WOW can I give this book 10 stars!!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Hart’s Ridge is the first book in Kay Bratt’s Hart’s Ridge series! This book is awesome and a must read! Goodreads Reviewer.

Genre-Bending Series Starter. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐This is a police procedural, ala so many others such as BR Spangler, Noelle Holten, and Allison Brennan, among so many others. Which is perfect for TV fans of shows like Blue Bloods or NYPD Blue or Chicago Blue or the various Law and Order shows. Bratt's explicit inspiration here is the true crime genre she personally loves, and in fact the case here is based on a real-world case nearly four decades old. Goodreads Reviewer

Page Turner! ❤️ ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
What an exciting start to a new series by Kay Bratt! This story has all the best of Bratt - great character development, a perfect setting, A DOG and this time, a mystery to be solved. As in life the main character, a sheriff’s deputy, comes to the job with family baggage - including a mystery of it’s own. The author does an amazing job tying her personal conflicts with the mystery she is trying to solve on the job. This was a page turner that had me very anxious to move on to the next book in the series!BookBub Reviewer

Just my cup of tea! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Hart’s Ridge is the first book in Kay Bratt’s Hart’s Ridge series! This book is awesome and a must read! Kay Bratt is such a great storyteller she gets you hooked with each book she writes. This book is different from her previous books but just as good if not better. Ms. Bratt has written a wonderful story which drew me right in, making me forget everything else and did not let me go until I turned the last page. I did not want to put this book down and read well past my bedtime. This is very well written has well developed and likable characters that you can’t help but fall in love with. This book will definitely keep you engaged and turning the pages. The best thing is it is number 1 in a series so there will be more to come. I can’t wait to see where this series goes. Abuse and trauma trigger’s

This stand-alone is easy to follow but at times difficult to read due to emotions evoked. No editing errors, gratuitous drag-you-down drama. Not all questions are answered.

This series start’s off with plenty of twists. The burdens being carried by Taylor are almost overwhelming. Descriptive writing that draws the reader into each scene. Flexible procedures, actions, reactions and disappointing betrayal. Believable characters with distinct personalities and emotional baggage. Thought-provoking and memorable dialogue.

No desire to re-read this story. I am in interested in other works in this series and by this author.

Whole numbers are so limiting and I reserve 5 for my absolute most favorite books of all time. But 4 is not adequate here! This mystery is deep enough to be challenging, but human enough to soften the blow. I love the main character. She’s both tough and soft, as she tries to look out for her community and take care of those nearest & dearest to her. And the secondary characters are all very human with strengths and flaws. It all comes together in a well- plotted story with some interesting twists.

Slow to start, heavy on description and backstory. Mystery thread was strong enough to keep me reading. Right up to the big reveal when the main character broke every rule in the book. Unforgivable. Enough that I won’t read another book in this series.

Taylor is the only female in her local sheriff’s department - and, she has to put up with lots of harassment. Too many chauvinistic men in her workplace! But, she is a dedicated, intelligent, and caring deputy. However, she has a problem because she wants to fix her family. Between worrying about her father and sisters, paying her alcoholic father’s bills, and paying for crap into which her sister gets, she lives from paycheck to paycheck. She deserves better and maybe she will eventually let go of her enabling behaviors. But, she has a new guy in her life, a rescue lab named Bernard — or is that his name? Good story and start of a series. Can’t wait to see if Taylor ever gets the recognition and respect she deserves.
