About this item
Nya can’t remember the last time she felt safe.
The rundown rental house didn’t seem so bad at first. But now, someone is stealing her food. Rattling her bedroom doorknob. Digging through her belongings.
Each night brings more disturbing incidents. And each night, Nya is more convinced that it’s not an intruder. She suspects the culprit is hiding in plain sight: her peculiar roommate-of-necessity, Sidney.
Nya can’t afford to live anywhere else. The horrible rental is her only option. In a few months, she’ll finish her final semester of college—and get the hell out of dodge. But to her horror, the sinister mind games are just the beginning. Before long, she’s forced to face the possibility that her physical safety may be at risk. Maybe even her life.
The truth is more terrifying than Nya could have guessed. And as the situation spirals out of control, it’s suddenly clear that surviving the night may no longer be an option.
PRAISE FOR ROOM FOR RENT
"Gripping and unpredictable, Room for Rent by Noelle Ihli had me peering between my fingers as I read. Anyone who has had a problematic roommate will immediately relate to this darkly disturbing, compulsively readable page-turner. An immersive, spine-tingling, deeply visceral experience. I recommend reading it with the lights blazing."
-Heather Gudenkauf, New York Times bestselling author of The Overnight Guest
"Ihli’s voice is magical and absorbing. I was immediately drawn into this story that quickly became something of every woman’s nightmares. With characters you’ll relate to, empathize with, and root for, it’s easy to get lost in this atmospheric and utterly claustrophobic story."
-Kiersten Modglin, bestselling author of The Arrangement
"This book is the definition of ‘sleep with one eye open.’ It got under my skin - sometimes quite literally made me feel like my skin was crawling. Tense, suspenseful, and oh so creepy, you won’t fall asleep quite so easily after reading this one!"
-Jess Kitching, author of Lucky Number 11
"Noelle Ihli is an auto-buy author for me ... This author expertly crafts her characters and then puts them in situations that the average person fervently hopes they will never find themselves in."
-Carrie Shields, @CarrieReadsThem_All
"This heart-pounding thriller will grip you from the first sentence and won't let you go until the last. Settle in and get comfy, because it's the very definition of unputdownable."
-Faith Gardner, author of The Slaying Game
"What a thrill ride! This book made me afraid of what could be happening in my own home. It gave me a nightmare I still can't shake. Trust me, you'll never look at basements the same way again."
-Steph Nelson, author of The Vein

My only caveat is that I am personally a nurse, (and although it was clear she did do research on the medical/anatomy side of things) this author does not understand what it is to be a registered nurse. So if you are medical, it will distract you out of the story to see that part so butchered. 1) Registered nurses don’t just go to a state university and get a “diploma” and go straight to the hospital to work. Nursing school is intensive and hard, we usually get a degree if a university is attended. (I attended a private nursing school and got a diploma, so it could’ve been a correct term had she not stated that Nya was at a university.) And the NCLEX (our licensing exam) is what we spend all of our time in school agonizing over. You cannot be a registered nurse unless you pass it. She basically said nya was gonna graduate from a university, go to another state and just start working on a hospital. What?? Is it even a compact state?? This author doesn’t know and sure didn’t look into it! Therefore, it made Nya’s story unbelievable to me. 2) I have taken so many science classes and know tons of nurses, doctors, and the like- and I could not believe that she was in a make-out session thinking those thoughts… pulled me right out of it. 3) I know Nya was struggling with her faith - but it was not believable that she was wanting to “give the finger” to her old church and sleep with someone she wasn’t attracted to- that was far too hurried in writing. 3) I owe 70K in student loans - I get the poverty mentality, I’m not sure not eating a lick of fruits or vegetables is believable here either. And without proper sleep and nutrition there is NO chance she got a 3.9GPA.
Whew. Those things were gnawing at me! She did so good with the rest of it! I haven’t finished a book in awhile because I can’t get into a lot of stories- but this one I wanted to know more. And this author painted a picture that kept me interested. The details were spot on. The illnesses described perfectly.
I’ve give it a B+! The only thing that would’ve made it better is if she researched nursing itself. (I bet if I wasn’t a nurse, it wouldn’t have annoyed me so much. Lol!)
