5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable but formatting issue made it difficult to follow at times.

*4.5 stars.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. Clearly the author researched Windsor Castle well. The basic story of two sisters separated during WW II is not an uncommon plot, but this one was intriguing, well written, and the reader could visualize what was going on without the author over-describing. Ms Wood did a good job incorporating contemporary events such as Covid and Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum jubilee, along with Lacey's own story which is all too true for some young women these days. Nothing felt forced or rushed in this book. It held my interest.

*The half-point off is for others to be aware.

In my Kindle version there were no paragraph indentions or even space separating paragraphs . It all just ran together. The only way I knew there was a new paragraph coming was at the end of a sentence which left most of the line blank. The only way I knew there was a new section within a chapter was two blank lines. This could be an issue with the way my Kindle is set or the way this was formatted for Kindle. It did not appear that way in the "Look Inside." It had indentions. I have never had this issue with other eBooks; therefore, I felt it was worth a mention.

This is the 2nd book by Daisy Wood that I read and I real enjoyed them both. This book toggles between 2 timelines - one in the past about Sophie and one in the future about Lacey who is her niece. I really enjoyed the story about Sophie but the story about Lacey was a bit dry. Every time I was in the present timeline, I just wanted to get back to the real story in the past. I did enjoy it overall and I think others will too.

What a lovely story. So many twists and turns. Some you didn't see coming. Jumping back and forth between today and the 1940's and tying the two together was masterful.
Don't miss out on this story, smiling and tearing up through it all. Well worth it!

The Royal Librarian was an interesting perspective of pre WW II from Austria, while a large portion of the story was centered in Windsor. The characters were so brave and made for a an easy read.

This book was awesome! I enjoyed the historical aspect of it, and the way that it was telling two stories at the same time. I was wishing the story lasted longer.

4.0 out of 5 stars fascinating story. Lots of drama and surprises

I usually read very fast. I had to take my time with The Royal Librarian. I didn't want to miss any of it. There was so much packed into this story. I traveled to different locations. I traveled to different time periods. It was all so fascinating. It was an amazing journey. I finished the story with tears traveling down my face.

The story begins in Austria with the Nazi occupation. Sadness overwhelmed me in the first chapter. The reality of the story was devastating. Sophie is just nine years old. Her nineteen year old sister, Hanna soon finds herself caring for her baby sister. The Nazis have destroyed their lives in Austria. Hanna now has to keep her promise to her mother and get Sophie and herself to safety.

The story unfolds thanks to Sophie's granddaughter, Lacey. She stumbles across Sophie's secret exposed on a passport. She finds a letter that Hanna had written to Sophie in America from England before they entered the war. No one in the family knew about Sophie's past or the existence of a sister.

Lacey travels to England in search of her great aunt's story as a Royal Librarian. Hanna's story was exhilarating. She was so much more than just a librarian. Her life was surrounded by danger, treason, spies and excitement. She constantly found herself in the wrong place or discovering the unthinkable. She became a threat to unknown persons. She needed to be removed. I couldn't believe what happened Hanna.

Lacey learned a lot about her family while in England. It was a very intriguing visit. She also learned a lot about herself. She didn't really plan ahead, arriving in England before the Platinum Jubilee celebrations. She stumbled upon a place to stay. She stumbled on to her own happiness.

The Royal Librarian was an exciting read. I honestly did not know what I would be reading next. I not only enjoyed a historical fiction that dealt with WW2 and the Royal family, but I got a modern day romance.

I liked the way the past was woven into the present. How people whom Hitler tried to destroy overcame the pain & did’t let him completely destroy their lives. I liked the look into Queen Elizabeth’s young life & what a wonderful person she was. This book definitely deserved a 5 rating, a wonderful read, Thank you, Daisy Wood!

5.0 out of 5 stars An incredible story

The author brings in many characters and aspects of history to create an amazing story that brings our past to life. It is always hopeful that we learn important lessons from these stories... To hold judgement until we learn the truth, to place love as the most important element, and to seek the truth on all instances. Being ready to judge a person guilty without the facts is a way to fall from grace. Great flow and story.
