About this item
** Now an Amazon TOP 5 Best Seller **
From USA Today and Amazon Bestselling Author Bella Matthews, comes a hot new hockey coach, single dad, marriage of convenience, small town romance.
A fake marriage with a single dad wasn't on my dance card but there are worse ways to start the summer.
Our story didn’t begin the night I agreed to marry Deacon Kane to help him keep his daughter. It started ten years ago, with a hotshot hockey player I couldn’t wait to see each summer. He was big, broad, and filled out his board shorts so damn nicely. But holy hell… The memories of teenage Deacon don’t hold a candle to the man he is now, the one who makes me melt each time he says, "my wife."
What was supposed to be a marriage of convenience quickly spirals into something else. Something I can’t control. Because this man makes me feel alive in a way I haven’t felt in months, and I want more.
More sparks.
More life.
More time.
Can a relationship based on lies last… Especially when I’m the one keeping all the secrets?

Although the book is a fake marriage and a sports romance, Decon and Brylee are not your typical couple. From the first chapter, I was hooked and fell in love with the characters. The way the fake marriage was incorporated was different and refreshing. I loved Brylee's big heart and how sweet and loving Decon was to his woman. Without giving too much away, I also love Kennedy because she went through something similar to me and her anxiety was something I can relate to even at 31 years old.
I will definitely reread this book again and again. It's the perfect summer read that makes you feel good and believe in love.

My Review????
Another great book in the Playing to Win series! We finally get to hear Brynlee's story, and get to know who she is sneaking around with, since she was being sus from the third book in the series LOL While I have loved this series, I think this book was my least fav of them all, and not in a bad way, but I just didn't feel that emotional investment or attachment to the characters like I had in previous books. With that being said, I love that you still see all of the friends, sisters, cousins, aunts, uncles, etc. from Kroyden Hills, and we still get the banter between all of them and their group chat messages too.
This book seemed to have taken place in a month or so timespan (correct me if I'm wrong)? And I think that's what made it feel unrealistic to me. I honestly didn't see the point in the marriage based off of why they did it, but you gotta do it for the plot you know? I did think it was super sweet that Brynlee had the biggest crush on Deacon growing up, and Brynlee's dad, Cade, told Deacon to stay far away from her, even when she was of legal age ???? I feel like what would have provided more context for this couple would have been some flashbacks from each of their POV of when they knew each other in their teens. We hear about how they knew each other, had crushes on each other, etc, but we only know that from their current POVs, not from how they actually felt in the moment when they were younger.
Overall, this was a good read and tied together some things in the series and provided more context from previous books. I loved that Brynlee gained more confidence and stood up for herself in multiple aspects, and Deacon could be that solid and constant person in her life to help with it.

Brynlee is such a strong woman and you see it so many times throughout this series! She has an amazing job as the physical therapist for the Revolution (hockey) and loved it but then she find out that she is switching teams to the Kings (football). Brynlee takes control of it herself and puts in her notice. While this is all happening she is battling with a secret that could change her life.
????
Deacon is hired as the youngest professional hockey coach for the Revolution and is ecstatic to start! He also has to balance work and life with his daughter, Kennedy. Brynlee and Deacon grew up vacationing at the same spot and have also had a connection but now they need each other more than ever. I loved Kennedy’s character so much in this book! Not only did I think that she truly encompasses some of todays youth but I thought we got a real reaction of someone who is going through a lot of life changes.
????
I loved the family aspect of this book so much! You see how they close ranks and protect their own. All of them are so strong but together as a group they can’t be beat. You also get to see some of the OGs and see what they have going on in their lives which gives me all the feels!
