AN INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

Modern medicine is lying to you. Discover the true science behind chronic diseases—and implement an actionable plan to take control of your health and longevity once and for all.

For the first time in history, chronic diseases like diabetes, hypertension, and obesity plague our population on a global scale. From a seasoned physician, this paradigm-shifting book comprehensively explains the linked cause and exposes the misconceptions prevalent in modern medicine.

In
Lies I Taught in Medical School, Robert Lufkin, MD, explains that metabolic dysfunction is the common underlying cause of most chronic diseases that has been overlooked for decades, providing the tools needed to address these diseases in ourselves. He draws on expansive, peer-reviewed evidence, proving that standard medical recommendations are killing us.

Over the course of 12 illustrated chapters,
Lies I Taught in Medical School chronicles how Dr. Lufkin corrected four chronic diseases in himself and expertly supplies the strategies needed to:
  • Identify chronic disease risk factors, such as inflammation and insulin resistance
  • Boost mental health via nutrition and lifestyle
  • Improve diet and metabolism
  • Attend to obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular and other common chronic diseases
  • Get off unnecessary medications, including many diabetes and hypertension drugs

What’s more, Dr. Lufkin offers practical advice to show how lifestyle factors such as nutrition, sleep, exercise, and stress management can target the fundamental cause of chronic diseases.
Lies I Taught in Medical School is a revolutionary and holistic guide that will help you take control of your health—before it’s too late.

The Plan Chapter is actually pretty straight forward. The rest explains why a Keto based diet works and should provide the reader with the motivation to change one's lifestyle. Previous reviews go into more detail, but suffice to say, if you are experiencing chronic health conditions this book is worth the read. It provided me with reasonable explanations of why current nutritional/ medical guidelines may be wrong for me and what to look for. Read the book, then judge for yourself.

Added the other info and experiences in seeking medical advice it was very helpful! Read it and going to reread it! Some doctors are good some shouldn't be in practice. A few are Gods. I have been luck enough to me a few of them. Thankfully they undo the damage of lesser beings. Good read to the point of discouragement but it also a guide how to seek a higher understanding. Hope it helps you!

When an insider blows the whistle it's time to listen. Lufkin is as part of the mainstream medical community as it can get. He has succeeded in academia, practice, and research. This book is an eye opener that can save your life.
It's well-written and easy to digest.
If you want the inside scoop about many of today's accepted medical beliefs and practices that need debunked, this is for you!

4.0 out of 5 stars fascinating information

The information on metabolic dysfunction & nutrition coincides with other authors I’ve read. I am a retired RN, BSN & was once a certified oncology hospital nurse. So much rings true. I wish I could ask the Doc to what degree caffeine triggers insulin response. I also was taken aback by the final chapter. I am always a bit cynical about promotion of “nutritional supplements “. I prefer to avoid pharmaceuticals & expensive diet aids. Otherwise, savored the message the rest of the book offered. Easy to follow & reasonably supported. Big Pharma & Big Food won’t like it much, & neither will people who don’t want to hear the message. In the end, people are often determined to believe what they prefer to believe.

This is an outstanding book that starts with the very biggest of pictures of our food supply and all is wrong with it and guides us through simple steps to dramatically improve our chances for living a healthier life, longer. Eliminating the hateful eight C. Doyle groups, choosing organic food, always, and cutting down on sugar and carbs to very low levels. Will help you get the health you want with weight loss as a very nice side benefit.

Be prepared to throw everything in your pantry out and start over because they’re all cooked with cheap harmful oils!

These will all be easy choices for you by the time you finish the book. Good luck !

I am kind of on the fence with moving toward a plant based diet or a low carb diet. I love the scientific facts and suggestions that the book presents. I am on my second time of reading the book to try and glean out a little more of the science behind the metobolic syndrome and insulin resistance. I will likely follow this plan to get a few pounds off and then try out a plant based diet for awhile and try and see what works best for me for improved health.

was recommended by a friend, but he got it on Kindle and couldn't share it, so I had to order it.

I like to think I pick up on concepts pretty well, but some of the science was way over my head. He tried successfully, I think, to make it palatable to the general public, in terms of basic concepts.

I would have liked to see some kind of a flow-chart to show the progression all the way from mTOR to the various diseases that elevated insulin contributes to or causes (if you're reading this Dr. Lufkin, I here by request it! :) )

There is enough confidence and accuracy here to compel me to make some life changes, though I admit I have Yo-Yo'd three times before from 280 lbs and up down to 220 lbs, with Atkins and WeightWatchers. I've already been practicing the time-honored "E.L.F" diet for the last couple of months and have shed a great deal of weight, but the lifestyle change is key.

Two key points stick out to me: using ketosis to my advantage by eating more protein-centric meals, and eating fewer meals in a shorter time-frame, period. It won't be easy, but armed with the cautionary information within these pages, I hope to have the motivation to stick with it this time.

Would recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book - well worth the cost and time to read it!

I agree with the other 5-star reviews. So far, the book has helped me lose ten pounds. I plan to lose another ten and stay at my healthy weight level using the recommendations given in the "Plan" portion of the book—basically, cut out sugar, starches, carbs, and soda and eat a diet high in healthy fats and protein, veggies, and some fruit and dairy. Of course, get some exercise and proper sleep, and maybe a cute dog.

The book is well worth the read. If you get bogged down in too much detail, skip those parts. Every chapter has explanations that non-doctors can understand.

The book makes an excellent connection between improper advice on diet and how that is making us unhealthy AND that improper diet is connected to many of the diseases that most of us are affected by: cancer, diabetes, Altimers, fatty liver, heart disease, and others.

I suggest that the author write a shorter, easier-to-read version of the book suitable for non-doctors.
