About this item
As a scruffy, disorganised daydreamer, Lucy Mayweather is like a fish out of water at the high-powered offices of her brother’s billionaire best friend. When she agreed to work for Felix, she had no idea quite how cut-throat his world – or he – would be. She just wanted to escape her reclusive life and be close to her childhood crush, hoping he might notice her.
But Lucy’s lonelier in London than she’s even been in her tiny village back home. The boy she grew up with has been replaced by a powerful, ruthless, extremely attractive man who doesn’t tolerate incompetence and who no longer seems to find Lucy’s quirks cute. Instead, he lectures her almost daily on her general crapness, and seems blind to the bullying she endures from his colleagues.
For Felix, agreeing to employ Lucy was a mistake. This shy bookworm with her head in the clouds, who wears tattered jumpers, carries multiple pens in her hair and has an obvious crush on him must be by far the worst assistant in London. But he’s always had a soft spot for the quirky little girl who lived in her own world and told the best stories. Well, now that little girl is all grown up… and he can’t stop thinking about her.
After Felix gives in to his bone-deep longing for his best friend’s little sister, he starts to feel more than he has in years. But Lucy has secrets, and Felix has trust issues. When his inability to trust her leads to a terrible betrayal and places Lucy in danger, Felix is faced with losing her forever. Because the new, hardened, traumatised Lucy is nothing like the daydreaming pushover she once was…
This is a full length, brother's best friend, grumpy billionaire boss romance.
Trigger warning for workplace harassment and assault.
Warning – there is swearing throughout this book.

what a beautiful new start to a new series

This book is standalone, but I just have to say how excited I am for the next books (Ollie, Lottie, Vicky and Mike). This book had everything- fun banter, beautiful story, lovely characters, and lots of emotion. I felt for Lucy so much. Felix did such a brilliant job redeeming himself that I cheered hard for him (for their HEA). I love that his actions (both hurting her and then doing everything to get her back) brought them so much closer. They could be themselves- Lucy no longer felt unequal. This is a keeper for me. I loved it and the epilogue (and cannot wait for the other stories to come out).

I found the story fun and light. I love some billionaire romance as much as the next girl, and this has amazing humor. The two main characters both had their own issues to work on, but it didn't take them years to realize they wanted each other. I would tell someone who is just getting into romance to start here.

Excellent characters and interesting storyline. The female lead character quirky daydreaming is written very well.
Blurb implies a little more drama than there actually is.
A really cute and creative book ????

A Fantastic Read

As with all books by Susie Tate, this book is simply wonderful. The characters have a way of gripping a hold of you and not letting go until the book is over. The characters are so relatable. Yes, one may be a daydreaming bookworm and the other a business tycoon. But it's not about what they do but who they are. Felix and Lucy are two people who have known each other since childhood but have grown up and apart. With a little meddling from their Mothers, Lucy is now working at Felix's company. For Lucy, this is not easy as she's constantly daydreaming and has a massive crush on Felix. For Felix, Lucy is not fitting into his world, but he can't let her go. Go ahead and click the pre-order button and be prepared to laugh, cry, get angry and a few other emotions as Felix and Lucy find their way.

This book was so beautiful because you read how two people become each other's safe space. Susie has done it again by making characters that you fall in love with even the ones who don't have a story yet! This book will have you crying and laughing!

not my favorite

Sadly this wasn’t a favorite of mine. I’m a huge fan of Ms Tate and a big consumer of grovel romances, but I found the writing here to be Ms Tate’s worst? It’s like she was not in her element writing about billionaires and whatnot. Every character was a caricature and no one was properly fleshed out.
Few points I’d like to mention that contain spoilers:
- it is said that Felix is a billionaire, but at one point Mike says to him and his employees that Lucy doesn’t need his money and could “buy and sell you lot five times over”, so she’s a writer who makes billions?
- Felix has been a workaholic his whole life, but due to his lovesickness, is able to turn his whole life upside down to be on Lucy’s beck and call? It was upsetting and a bit icky to read. He changed 100% and she changed none. I’d have expected him to fail at least once while trying to change his work habits. I’d have expected compromises in the relationships. Considering how bossy he was in the beginning, I’d have expected him to make some kind of feeding schedule for Lucy or some kind of plan to improve HER instead of enabling her unhealthy habits. Solution, I expected solutions.
- Felix’s dad was bad just because he was bad. There wasn’t any reason for it. He was just all the cliche rich men in one. I was surprised about this, because Ms Tate has written rich, snooty parent characters before, but this one was just… bad.
- Felix’s mom solving her problem so easily after the dinner was silly. If it was that easy, why did she spend a miserable life all that time? There should’ve been a heartfelt conversation between her and Felix where she explains some heart-wrenching reason she has endured everything all that time and Felix letting her know that she has options.
- Tabitha trying to be best friends with Lucy after the incident was a huge cringe fest. Apologize, be ashamed and slowly try to built trust instead of grabbing someone’s arm and pretend that this is how you guys were.
- Animal names based on LOTR characters otherwise cute, but I’d have expected this to mean that Lucy is a huge LOTR geek somehow, but this was not referenced in any way, so I thought it was just too forced

I have loved every Susie Tate book I’ve read. Her books have humor, flawed or emotionally damaged characters and always a happy ending. Highly recommend this author.

Super slow start, but oh the groveling!

I nearly DNFed this due to the slow start and the fact that I'm an awful lot like the FMC (minus the bestselling author part) but I'm glad i pushed through. It's a sweet book filled with all the groveling a girl could ever ask for. Definitely worth the slow start!
