Southern Chance is the first novel I've read by Natasha Madison, and it is a hit right out of the gate!
Kallie and Jacob are the quintessential Southern high school sweethearts, but at prom their loves are blown wide open and Kallie vanishes. Eight years later when she comes back holding Olivia's secret for her, and hoping to hide her best friend, she is determined to just ignore Jacob.
That plan is shot when she sees him as soon as she stops at the first stop sign in town, and he's not alone. Kallie quickly discovers there's no way to ignore him when she and Olivia bring danger to town with them, and of course the whispers are flying fast and furious.
Jacob is horribly angry when he is surprised by Kallie sitting in her car at the stop sign staring at him, but soon that gives way to realizing he will never love anyone else the way he's loved Kallie his entire life.
When he finally decides he can't go one more day without telling her the secret buried so deep only two other people know, Jacob never imagined that Kallie had been keeping secrets of her own for eight years. A secret so devastating only Kallie and her mother were holding it, and that secret will bring Jacob to his knees. After everything is in the open will they be able to forgive each other, or will they continue loving each other alone?
A beautifully sad, sometimes funny, sometimes steamy story about the only thing that can kill such a special kind of love: lies. Ms. Madison has written a wonderful novel for me to fall in love with, and I can't wait to read the second book in the series, Southern Comfort!!

About this item
From Wall Street Journal and USA TODAY bestselling author Natasha Madison comes a brand new stand-alone small town, second-chance single dad romance.
Buried secrets never stay hidden in the South.Kallie
I fell in love with him when I was seven.
I scraped my knee, and he helped carry me inside.
Our love story was the talk of the town until a woman told everyone she was pregnant with his baby.
The only rational solution was to high tail it out of town and never come back.
My best friend needed a place to hide, and you can’t get much more covert than my family farm, so I came back.
For her. It was supposed to be temporary, and I wasn’t supposed to see him, but that’s what happens when you live in a small town where everyone knows each other.
Jacob
Being the sheriff in a small town was never my dream.
My father died and my older brother took off, so I had to be the one to look after my mother.
I stayed.
I fulfilled my duties as a son and I protected my hometown.
My life wasn’t perfect, but I was content.
Until I locked eyes with a ghost from my past, Kallie.
I thought it was my imagination, it couldn’t be.
I loved her most of my life, but now I hated her.
The town gossip mill was going into overdrive.
I kept my head down and my mind off of the woman who shattered my heart when she ran away.
She didn’t give me a chance to explain, it didn’t matter to her then.
I didn’t matter. A second chance is never promised, but now that mine is right under my nose, I’m not sure I can take it.

Saddle up ladies because Natasha Madison has a new series and it’s shaping up to be quite epic! I love small town, southern romance books. I love the sense of family, the laid-back attitude and fierceness that I regularly see in the characters. In Madison’s latest release readers will get this and more! While there may have been a few problematic pieces for me, the overall book left me feeling happiness so I’m going to have to say the author has another winner on her hands.
Southern Chance is the first book in the Southern series. These books are interconnected standalones. After reading this one, I’m quite anxious to read Casey and Olivia’s story (which releases on April 14th) as the ending of this one left us with some questions… I won’t say it’s a cliffhanger per say because the main characters in THIS book do have their HEA, but it DOES lead into the next one. Gosh, I need is RIGHT NOW! This book is also a second chance romance. The main characters were high school sweethearts who essentially broke up on prom night after a big surprise landed on their laps. This breakup was devastating for both, so much so that the heroine (Kallie) ends up leaving in the middle of the night without a word. 8 years then pass and the two are brought back together again when she and a friend of hers needs solitude and safety from an enemy whose out to get her friend. What happens after between Kallie and Jacob? Well, that’s something you need to experience while reading Southern Chance!
As I mentioned above, there were a few small things that bothered me while reading and I’ll get to those now (I’m attempting to NOT spoil the book for potential readers so bear with me). The big SECRET that drove Kallie and Jacob apart was a bit farfetched. I think I would have believed in it more had we gotten and understand as to WHY Jacob did what he did, but instead, were left with more questions than answers. For me, if you’re going to base an entire book around a huge secret you must spend time explaining it to the readers through the characters and the simply didn’t happen here. Another thing that I didn’t quite care for was how EASY it was for them to get back together despite all the crap they were both spewing at each other in their initial meeting after 8 years. It was so quick I thought I had whiplash! One second, they HATE each other and the next they have never stopped loving each other. Hmmm!!! A little bit more buildup would have seemed more authentic.
Other than these two things, I enjoyed Southern Chance and I’m excited to see what happens next! I have had my “eye” on Casey and Olivia since “meeting” them and am so excited to see what happens in their book. I personally recommend reading this one BEFORE starting Southern Comfort (which is next) but you don’t absolutely need to. I just think it’ll give you a better glimpse at the couple along with their friends.

Make me cry.. And make me cheering for them at the same time.. ????????????????????????????

This book.. Wow.. From the first page till the end I got hooked. I love the way they loved each other.. Even though the were apart for nearly a decade. Kallie and Jacob love story is totally deserve more than 5 stars????. And I have never met the most selfish person like Savannah.. And I've never read a story about how a friend sacrificed their happiness for their best friend. That's why I do not like Jacob at first.. How can you sacrifice your happiness.. And choose a friend over the love of your life. Anyway.. I hate Savannah.. But other than that, I love the story. Bravo NM..

grovel was not satisfying
Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2023
The overall story was good and I liked all the characters. My main problem was I felt there wasn’t a great grovel - he essentially says I didn’t choose OW I chose my child, but that’s not actually what happened because it wasn’t his child. Yes she could have stayed around longer to talk to him but those two things are absolutely not the same. He’s absolved way too quickly and the end is just her being the better person. Like angelically better. I felt so sad for h and all the compromise and hurt she was put through, yet she sacrifices any sort of real healing and justice so that everyone can get what they want and so she can be with the H. And the H is pretty much okay with that. He stands up to his mom but that’s about it and honestly h’s mom does a better job at it.
I pretty much dragged myself through the last quarter.

I enjoyed this and it kept my interest to the detriment of sleep. I don’t like the way it’s written to overlap the books in the series, because while it’s technically a standalone, it’s really a cliffhanger and designed to make you read the next book to fill the holes in the plot. I liked the characters, but I think the serious failure to communicate took that to a whole new level. Building in those many years of angst was a lot to swallow. I have to admit, I now want to read the next book. Bonus for being KU.
