"Intimacy is only one string on the bow. The instrument still plays the music"
"Some things are meant to be flawed, therein lies the beauty"
"Be careful, Martha, you'll become blind to your own value if you keep looking through the eyes of the bourgeoisie"
"To me, the promise of finding what I did not know I was looking for was the lure of the game"
Beautifully written and giving life to characters so well developed to be loved and missed and feared. A powerful testimony to the wonders of books and manuscripts.
I am so sorry to have come to the end !!
If you're deciding whether or not you should read this book... the answer is YES without a doubt!! You will not regret it. The cover is absolutely beautiful and the words, the plot, the characters, the everything... is so beautifully done and said. This book is packed with mystery, suspense, romance and healing. There is so much information but not in a way that's overwhelming, more so that reels you in wanting more! Everything is so well captivated. The Lost Bookshop will forever and always be one of my favorite books inside and out. All the way 5 stars. If I could rate it more I would! Evie Woods is so incredibly talented. I'm so excited to get her other book, already preorder!!????

Of the 3 main characters, two women and one man, both of the women have been extremely emotionally abused with one of them being physically abused by her husband. To call that "charming" is obscene. Opaline is to be sold in to a marriage that she escapes from before it happens then spends the rest of her life hiding from her brother that hunts her down. When he does find her she is held against her will for years only to finally escape and continue living in fear. Martha has been physically abused by her husband during their marriage and escapes to live the rest of her life with fear, anxiety, and trust issues. Neither are charming or uplifting.
The story itself is good and drew me in and made me think. I was able to journey along with the characters which is the mark of a good book to me. I take the trip with the characters instead of just reading about the journey from the outside.
In my opinion the author left a few questions unanswered that would have benefitted the story much more, but that wasn't a big enough issue to effect how I enjoyed the book. My only issue with is was the very misleading tag line.
Opaline, Martha & Henry, all share stories and the love of books will blend all their lives. The unique way the author tells the story Opaline from 18th century and Martha & Henry in modern times. Mostly takes place in Ireland and England. But it's the love of books that binds these characters. You will love this story. I was surprised at the unseeing ending.
The other character Madame Bowden you won't forget.
