I bought this for a trip after reading that the hotel did not have a coffee maker in the room. (Although it turned out that it did.) I like having tea in the evening and a lot of hotels don't have coffee/tea service at nice or else I just don't want to go out of my room to fetch it.
Anyhow, the travel kettle fit well into my personal bag for the flight and I set it up in the hotel room bathroom. The kettle takes a few minutes to boil water, it's not fast, maybe five minutes, but it does a good job. There's enough water for one cup of coffee or tea, or hot water for instant cereal, etc. The cord can store inside the kettle for travel, although I took care to wrap it so it wouldn't scratch the interior. When you get the kettle, everything comes shipped inside -- so make sure to look inside before you think the cord is missing!
There are a few temperature settings, which is nice because some teas brew best at boiling while others need a lower temperature to avoid being too bitter. It's fairly straightforward to set the temperature. It was supposed to beep three times to tell me that the water was boiled, but it didn't beep at the 212F setting and for the 176F setting it beeped once.
This isn't the kind of appliance that you plug in an walk away so the beeping (or not) is not a big deal for me. I boil the water and immediately unplug the kettle. It does have a grounded cord and the cord is long enough for countertop use without being so short that you need to shove the kettle up against the wall to use it.
Finally, it looks nice. I have the beige color and it has a bronze/gold stripe that gives it a bit of bling. I probably won't use it very often at home but this has earned a place in my luggage for travel.
