Let's be honest. Coravin's argon capsules are overpriced compared to generic ones and they can get away with it because their capsules have this special plastic cap on them which mates with their wine systems. With a little acetone and care, the plastic cap can be removed from an empty capsule to screw it on to a generic argon capsule. But since the plastic caps eventually wear out, you will need to purchase a box of the Coravin capsules to get more caps.
If you don't want to play games with your capsules, stick to the real ones from Coravin and you'll be pleased. As for the Coravin system, I totally love it. Great for home and for going on a cruise where I can keep multiple bottles in my quarters and "decant" the right wine for dinner. Most of the wineries in the Napa and Sonoma Valleys use Coravin so that they can stock a lot of library wines in their tasting rooms.
