Last summer I used the steel straw from a drink tumbler to pit cherries. Never again! This cherry pitter is sturdy, makes minimal mess (note the lack of cherry juice on the paper towel in pics), reliably pits, and is both reasonably efficient and ergonomic with little waste. The lock close mechanism does reduce the storage area somewhat and doesn’t accidentally engage very often during use. The removable clear plastic cylinder dramatically reduces the splatter! Last year I had cherry juice and debris all over me and the kitchen counter.
Here are pics of the second round of cherries I pitted with this pitter this year. Would a pitter that does multiple cherries at the same time be better? Maybe, but I haven’t tried one and don’t intend to as I’m happy with this one. Good value for the price.
