I have been playing bass on and off for 15 years or so, and usually I spent more time off than on. Since I got this bass I haven't taken a day off for a number of reasons.
Pro's:
1. It is fun to play, and much easier than most other basses because of the short scale length.
2. No plugging in. I can pick up and play for 2 minutes or two hours.
3. Has a great tone, and it's one of those basses that you can really feel vibrate against your stomach while standing.
4. The strings that they put on it feel like butter.
Con's
1. The strings are copper wound rather than the usual nickel, and you can get a twang on the higher notes that some people might find unusual. (For people who have played acoustic guitar in the past, this is normal.)
2. The strings feel loose. The g string especially feels a little wild, but after a few minutes of playing I don't even notice it.
Competition:
1. The Taylor gs is better, but it is also several hundred dollars more expensive, so if you don't want to spend a few hundred dollars on marginal upgrade, this is the one for you.
2. Kala ubasses are very nice options too. I have the rumbler and it sounds great, but it has a very different feel than a regular bass, and the rubberized strings make certain songs/techniques much harder to play. This is somewhere in between that really small ubass and a full size electric.
Overall thoughts :
So if you're like me, and had trouble getting motivated to play, this is nearly the perfect bass
