5.0 out of 5 stars First Step to be Covering Tyler Joseph!

I'm a sixteen year-old guy who normally plays guitar, but I wanted to try out ukulele too as kind of an add-on instrument. I got this as a Christmas gift from my parents last month. It's my first uke, so I wanted one on the cheaper side...but the instrument itself doesn't sound cheap at all!

STRINGS: As other reviewers stated, the nylon strings do not come already tuned (tip: from bottom to top it's tuned GCEA). The strings wouldn't stay in tune for the first couple of days (which is expected because they need time to stretch and be "broken in"), but after re-tuning a couple times- they now stay almost perfectly in tune for long periods of time. Also an interesting thing is: I'm a lefty, but I had a friend take all the strings off and simply reattach them the opposite way and it works for left handed players! (warning: chords are different for right-handed players and left-handed players, so find left-handed ukulele chords online)

UKULELE: The uke itself looks great and has no errors in its finish or in its build as far as I can see, and it sounds clean and crisp. It's also amazingly light in weight and easy to carry and hold. Other reviewers normally purchase the instrument for younger kids (5-13 years old), but a teenager or a grown adult can play the instrument too. And it's honestly pretty easy to play, especially if you already have some sort of experience with (in my case, a guitar) another string instrument.

ACCESSORIES: Along with the instrument itself comes a black bag to carry it in. There's nothing special about the bag, but it makes carrying the uke around easier, and keeps the dust off of it. Three picks (red, green, and purple) of different widths come in a tiny bag as well. An Aztec themed strap comes with it, but I personally I don't like using it because of how it functions. I had difficulty figuring out how the strap worked at first, so I'll add my experience in the review: you clip the little black clamp on the end of the strap and attach it around the waist of the uke and to the soundhole and then put the loop around your neck. It feels weird and unnatural to me and doesn't support the instrument well (unlike a guitar strap) so I just don't use it.

Overall I give the little uke five stars and would definitely buy again. Some examples of great musicians who use the ukulele are Tyler Joseph, Grace Vanderwaal, and Cavetown. Personally I love the instrument, and I'm a happy customer :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Bought This For My 5 Year Old (She LOVES It)
Reviewed in the United States on December 20, 2018
I knew this was a good purchase the moment I took it out of the box. The mahogany wood felt very good in my hands and the size is PERFECT for my daughter's fingers. I bought this as a test instrument to see if my daughter would later pick up guitar (she ALWAYS wants to play "daddy's guitar"). The shape and edging on the instrument are good quality and the body feels light but sturdy. The tonal quality is AWESOME for the price you pay for the instrument. Please, keep in mind, that I did NOT buy this as a toy. The quality of sound that you get from the nylon strings (Thank GOD) over the mahogany wood is very warm and friendly. Even out of tune, I can bear to hear this be played and practiced on. The strings do need to be tightened quite a bit when you first tune the instrument BUT THAT IS COMPLETELY NORMAL FOR A NEW STRING INSTRUMENT! Please do not be turned off to a a very good deal just because you have to put a little work into it at the beginning. The strings will eventually settle and since they are nylon, you don't have to worry so much about your little one(s) splitting their fingers like you do on steel strings. WIN.

I would like to note that I am by no means a professional guitarist or musician. My experience includes roughly 9-10 years of percussion instruments and about 7 years of self taught guitar "plucking." I do, however, have enough knowledge to say that you will be hard pressed to find a safer and inexpensive starter instrument for your child.

The bottom line is that It's not obnoxiously loud, it won't harm their fingers while practicing (some discomfort is normal, there fingers have to adapt!), its' easy to maintain, and it has a very pleasant and inviting tone which, neither my wife nor I, find to be unbearable or unreasonable. As an added bonus, it comes with 2 months of free lessons for either your child (or both of you!). I am choosing to learn alongside my daughter since I have always wanted to learn how to play the ukulele and it is a great bonding moment that I have wanted since she started showing interest in instruments.

You can't go wrong with this buy!

10/10 I would definitely recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Value -- with or without the free lessons
Reviewed in the United States on November 24, 2018
This is a beautifully crafted instrument and the sound quality is amazing, much better than you would expect from something in this price range. The construction is very solid and the wood is strong and beautiful. Some have complained about the strings in other ratings -- I have found them to be a good quality and after one or two tunngs, they are holding their pitch very well.

If you are counting on the free lessons (as I was), here is how it works. After your instrument arrives, wait for at least 24 hours to get an email from the vendor. Then you will have to respond and verify that yes, you do want the lessons. You will get an email the next day which will direct you to a site to sign up. At that site you will be asked for your email address and which instrument you wish to learn -- but then you will be asked for your credit card information. This is for "identification purposes only" and they say they will not bill you. This is before you even know what your potential charges are or how this system works. For those who do not have a very secure connection to the internet, I would advise caution here.

But even if you choose not to take advantage of the video lessons, this ukulele is a good value. There are many places on the internet where you can learn to play, or you can even buy instruction books or DVDs from Amazon. Even with an additional cash outlay for materials, you are still ahead of the game and you're going to have a lot of enjoyment from this ukulele.
