This is an incredible bass for the dollar. It arrived playing wonderfully right out of the box. The strings were a bit cheap and round wounds. I prefer flats on fretless so I put a set if DR Legends (also from Amazon) on it. While changing strings I also oiled and buffed the fretboard which made it smoother and harder. And raised the neck pickup about 1.5 mm to beef up the sound a little. Woods used are terrific and fit/finish is strong. Well buil chassis.

Cons, the tuners were borderline decision not to replace, they feel cheap as they are. But they are doing their job so that counts. The electronics are cheap, but not bad sounding. They have a slight distortion to them that is not unlike the warmth of the early Pbasses, which is not a terrible thing to sound like. So again, its doing the job.

The result I took down to a local open mic blues jam for a test drive. This is the bass in real stage use. I figure a live real use example gives the best idea of the end result if you buy one. Personally, I think it feels like about a $5-700 Ibanez or Schecter or Yamaha etc. An upper end fretless Squier would sound and feel fairly similer. But yhis is $180.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great budget 5 string fretless

Ive been playing bass guitar for 30 years and have played many makes and models. They were not lying when they said it was heavy, it is. Its a great playing bass outside of that. Minimal setup required out of the box, tuning keys needed tightening, no big deal. Intonation was actually pretty close. The wound strings that came on it are ok but will scratch the fretboard, so save up for some flat wounds. If you've always been curious about a 5 string fretless, this is a decent starting point.

I needed a fretless 5 string for a new project that tunes down 1/2 step, decided to take a chance on one of these. I am impressed with the sound and playability, excellent instrument and fantastic value...

5.0 out of 5 stars Heavy but fun!

Absolutely floored at how well this bass is made, but know this: it is heavy. Came needing a little set up - the octaves were a bit sharp or flat & the action was high but easy to fix. Tuners are tight & the fret markers are only on the top neck side. Beautiful instrument & fun as hell to play.

3.0 out of 5 stars Requires some setup abilities...but otherwise a great deal

This was a bit of a wild hair purchase. I'm fairly confident with setup, so this did work out in the end. All strings from 'fifth fret' (that area, this is a fretless) were muted when tuned and played out of the box. Required resetting the neck relief and some work on the nut (filing all 5 string slots) to get this playable. I was gigging with it two days later (success). It could use better pickups (but what do you expect for $200?!). This will do until I can justify $1500 for a 'real' five string fretless...

I was told about this bass thru a friend in another band...I have 3 tobias basses and a spector legend 5 all fretted and I have a 1999 warwick fortress fretless with a bubinga front and swamp ash back 5 piece mahogany/wenge neck and ebony fretboard....I can say this after having this bass 2 days it's a quality build....the tuners seem a tad on the cheap end and the neck pickup does have a tad bit of static on the high side with my overdrive on thru a peavey renown 400 combo...but for $70 I can put Aguilar pickups in it and I will and my guess is it'll sound and play just as good as my wick....way undervalued bass and not just for starters guys...if ur looking for a good fretless cheap get this bass before the prices go up cause they will and it'll still be worth it....I did a setup job of course and made sure all the hardware was snug and it was pretty close really...bass sounds and plays like butter and I oiled the fretboard down .....love it and I will be buying a few more.if I could post a video of how it sounds I would....I play in a prog/death core band I won't name but u will see this bass on our next vid drop on YouTube if u know who we are ....Once again.....BUY THIS BASS.....You won't be disappointed
