I liked the idea of learning on a small kalimba before getting a full size one but the sound of it actually hurt my ears. It's too small. More of a tchotchke than a beginner instrument.

I love this adorable little instrument. It’s fun to just play with when I’m just sitting. It doesn’t have the pretty sound as a large one but it’s fun to play with.
Was a cute ornament except there was a small visible black dot on the bottom. Not happy!

Given the tiny size, I set my expectations closer to music box than kalimba. Unfortunately, this doesn't reach that height.

The metal pieces were all smooth enough to be safe to rub one's fingers across.

Out of the box, I found the 6th and octave keys not to really make notes at all, mostly a nasty vibration against the metal. As best I can measure, the fundamental was 40 flat of C, the 7th was actually the next C, and the 8th was C#. I ambitiously loosened the screws to see if I could straighten the very curved second (and failed, the metal is springy), and tried to get the tuning nearer to usable. I was able to get the fundamental to either 20 flat or 20 sharp according to a slight nudge, but I ran out of patience before getting any closer. Well, maybe I had it 5 flat for a moment but it wasn't seated straight and would move as soon as I might try to tune a neighbor. So, I chose not to try any further.

And all that is just when I managed to get my tuner app to recognize this instrument. The voice is so brief that the app didn't want to make the necessary effort.

This item is a cute idea, but it doesn't offer any hope for music that fits in your pocket.

I have to admit that I am disappointed with this so-called Kalimba Thumb Piano. It came with no instructions and really should have. It leaves you to find out for yourself, as to how to tune it and even use it, for that matter. It is very small: 2.5/8" long x 2" wide. I don't even think it would hold a child's attention, nor encourage them to try to find out how to play much of a tune on it. The thin lanyard to attach it to, is not really long enough to wear either. Overall, I honestly am just not pleased with this.
