    This tongue drum is excellent. It was in tune when it arrived. I am a musician and the sound is excellent. It should be fairly easy for a child to play, but the sound is also beautiful for an adult to use. This is the third one I've bought as a gift for several young people I know. I recommend this highly.

    I bought this for my son for Christmas but he ended up getting it as an early gift because he kept asking for it. He loves it. He found out how to play twinkle little star and it sounds so beautiful especially when outside in the rain. It makes the music sound so nice

    I have been playing and creating music for nearly fifty years so I have built up quite an array of devices and instruments that go far beyond the normal scope of most players. I particularly have an interesting set of percussion instruments that I've built up over the years including such ethnic instruments such as a Korean kkwaenggwari, a Peruvian cajón, and even such domestically odd percussion instruments as a set of boomwhackers. I have always been intrigued by percussion instruments and I even own a type of ekwe, a Nigerian idiophone, that is what is called a slit drum. Though not even close in sound and purpose the steel tongue drum is classified as a type of slit drum.
    Based on the information and picture my initial perception of this instrument was that it would be a cheap version of something else more akin to a child's toy but upon arriving that proved to be wrong. The drum is well made as is the drawstring bag it comes in. There are no uneven spots on the drum both inside and out which could have affected the sound and performance.
    The drum is tuned to C and is satisfactorily correct to pitch. It can be played with both the provided mallets and finger picks as well as your hands for a much more subtle attack. The notes all corresponded to the appropriate pitch and rang accordingly.
    There is a plug on the bottom and removing this will increase the sustain of the notes. I appropriated it for another purpose and fashioned a plug with a small microphone inside the drum significantly increasing it's presence. I ran it through a preamp and using a converter allowing me to capture the signal in real time with limited lag. Once that was completed, with some modulation software, the resulting lines are used to create samples in a number of different keys. I had no problems with the conversion. In fact it sounded better than thought it would. The point of all this is that with a little imagination you are not limited to what you can do with this drum. The signal's integrity was maintained even after being significantly altered giving this instrument the kind of versatility I have come to expect.
    I was satisfied with my order. The drum is well made and the accessories were satisfactory. The mallets were appropriate to the size. I didn't really have much use for the finger picks nor the songbook. I guess the latter could be useful for those who want to familiarize themselves with the different notes and the relationship they have to one another. I ordered this to use for creating and utilizing different techniques of sampling and for that purpose it was up to standard. It may not be an instrument you use that often but the results it produces are an essential for any modern musician's toolbox whether you're into stuff as diverse as the Grateful Dead, Radiohead, Alice Coltrane, as well as creating soundscapes for videos or simply for the love of making music. This is one of those tools that when coupled with your imagination can provide much more than it was intended to. In that regard it is for the price the best you will do.
