5.0 out of 5 stars For rock and blues players - rejoice!
Reviewed in the United States on July 19, 2024
Electric guitar players will find that these strings are a quick tune up that allows your old acoustic guitar to be played much much much more like an electric guitar. Transforms the stiff acoustic into a softer playing instrument much more compatible with electric playing style.

Also the sound of these rock / blues strings is a little different. The phosphor ones might sound a little soft, but the 80/20 bronze are distinctly brighter sounding on my guitars.

My Yamaha parlor’ish csf1m crimson red small form acoustic guitar sounds great with these strings: bright, loud, clear, very musical. The csf1 crimson red is a little known jewel in the distinguished Yamaha acoustic line up. It also comes with a very high class sturdy Yamaha gig bag. Awesome gig bag.

My Yamaha Ac3r stage acoustic is much larger and this also sounds great, bright, clear, and resonant with these strings and it feels a lot more like an electric with the nice profile Yamaha neck. Nice slim neck. It is a rocking combination, especially when amplified.

Amplified these strings actually come into their own best realm where their characteristic feel comes into play. The sound is awesome, enhanced by the easy bendability and sensitivity.

Unamplified the bronze version sound great to me during leisurely playing. I am accustomed to the sound and feel of these strings.

These strings are extremely resistant to breaking under very very energy intense playing. Ernie Ball is known for making nearly unbreakable guitar strings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extra Light strings, I’m picking up my guitar way more often now!

This review is for the EXTRA LIGHT strings pack!

Playing a guitar with stock strings HURTS!

I was watching an interview with one of the guys from ZZ Top and he said that some of the best advice he got was from another legendary blues artist who told him he was working too hard and to get lighter strings!

This sounded like just what I needed for my acoustic, my electric is pleasant to play because those strings are forgiving but the strings on my acoustic are painful!

The most anxiety producing scenarios in life have to be public speaking, waiting for medical test results and switching out guitar strings!

I was sweating installing these but they are really easy to wind all the way to standard tuning AND they stay in tune!

They sound great. For some reason, musical instrument/guitar guys and audiophile gatekeepers like to take all the fun out of everything and over examine everything to death, notice I didn’t call them musicians ????. You might hear that lighter strings will make you lose tone *cringe using that word* and your sound will be less robust but that is NOT true. The extra light strings sing and sound GREAT!

I’m only using these for the rest of my time on planet earth!

    Happy playing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Acoustic Guitar Strings

I put a set of these acoustic strings on my Luna guitar, and it sounds better than ever. These Earthwood strings are very playable, and will be my choice going forward on each of my acoustic guitars. They are also a great value for the reasonable price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic for my vintage dread...warm, full sound
Reviewed in the United States on January 6, 2013
I play mostly acoustic guitar, and until now had used daddario exclusively on my steel and nylon stringed guitars. They had always sounded good and the company has a good range of strings to select from.

About a year ago I got a mid 70's Yairi dreadnought. The guitar had been played hard all these years and the top was open and it sounded warm and powerful. I realized that there would likely be a search involved to find just the right strings to make the most of this well worn beauty.

There were string gauge recommendations/limitations inthe soundhole of the guitar. Given the age of the top I wasn't going to exceed the limits. My normal dreadnought strings are Daddario EJ17's (13's, Mediums), but they were outside the limits. I tried EJ16's, the lights, but I felt the warmth was not what I had hoped. Older guitars often have this magic where you get fantastic projection without brittleness or strident tone. The EJ16's didn't bring out enough of the vintage character I felt the Yairi could provide.

So I began searching other manufacturers to see what was available. These strings were a very close match to the gauge limits so I ordered a pair. Just what I had hoped! Warmth coupled with projection. These strings were a perfect fit for my vintage Yairi.

I'll also mention that the B and high E strings feel unusually thin for their gauge...thinner than EJ16's. It's not bad, just a observation. They are every comfortable to play. You can really feel them under your fingers and they fret easily.

The downside to these strings are that their tone tends to fade more quickly than my others, hence a 1 star deduction. The sound is so good and they are reasonably priced...despite this flaw I'm sticking with the 2003's.

I've been using these strings for a year and I've never had a broken string. All the sets I've used in that time...about 10...have been uniformly excellent.

If, like me, you're on a search for a warm, smooth sound that still has projection and power (and you have the guitar top to facilitate this), give these a try. They are perfect for my old Yairi and I've had a positive introduction to Ernie Ball!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sound good, not too heavy.

I bought a heavier gauge recently. THEY sounded great on my grape hole ovation custom. Very bright, very full sound. I suffered an injury and had to go lighter, I bought earthwoods again in this lighter gauge. I went from 12/54 to these 10/50. Still phenomenal sound. Bright, crisp. These are not the cheapest, but for me the tonal quality is worth the money. They are the perfect gauge to build my hand strength again..

I don't play much, nor do I ever play for others...I just mess around. But these strings are perfect for me, both in size and sound. These give me that new car smell, but for my ears. They are so bright and every time I change them out, I get an eargasm playing my guitar. Give them a shot if you haven't.
