5.0 out of 5 stars Very impressed - great looking, great playing and inexpensive?

This is a really good instrument and an amazing bargain. I may have just gotten lucky. here are my observations after a few hours of playing. Your experience may vary. PROs: great looking, lighter than expected, solid feeling tuners, good nut cut, excellent fret work, relatively flat radius, string bends are easy, extremely comfortable to play, great set-up right out of the box, stays in tune pretty well, above average packing CONs: No case, body and even the neck are made from wood laminates - this raises the question of how long the adhesives will last, other short cuts: for example shorter than usual strap button screws

Bought this about a month after my American made Strat, and do not regret it at all. I'm not going to claim it's better than the Strat. but I play it far more than I play my former go-to. Factory setup was nearly spot on. Action was set to a perfect for balance between playability and avoiding fret buzz (ymmv), frets were even and well finished with no sharp edges with a binding the full length of the finger board to prevent fret sprout, and intonation was nearly dead on, being just slightly flat on the low E and the a strings. All I had to do was restring, tune up, and play. Tuning hardware is solid and stays in tune.

The gold hardware combined with the dark purple burst is also very easy on the eyes.

I was concerned that I'd get a poorly built guitar in need of a ton of setup and tweaks. What I got has a build quality equal to my Strat with better setup from the factory than the Strat got from the music store that sold it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet explorer type guitar

Hey there, just writing a review on this Firefly explorer guitar. It's was my first Firefly, WAS, because I recently bought another that is an homage to EVH. Anyway, we're here for the explorer review, right? I honestly was taken aback by the overall quality of Firefly's, it's sturdy, the hardware is pretty good and the fit and finish is remarkable. The model I purchased is, what I would call a bloodburst with red binding around the body, it's evil looking, and I love it! It was pretty well set up out of the box, but there was a little fine tuning needed (adjust the trust rod, change strings, annotate), the usually stuff for any level of guitar after shipping. Anyway, the pickups are over all pretty solid, enough to get you through until you can afford an upgrade at least. Anyway, this guitar really opened my eyes to less expensive guitars, and i wouldn't/didn't hesitate to pick up another Firefly.

It was a welcome and challenging intro to a brand new guitar.

It needed a lot of setup initially because the strings were buzzing like crazy.

Fret buzz, strong feedback/resonance with the note D.
Nut needed filling as it was cut too deep, even for a .52 gauge string.
    Action height needed adjustment.

Having done all that, but knowing that I'm starting with a new, factory guitar that just needs setting in and not some random state of affairs like buying a used guitar.
Great learning experience and the guitar plays really well and comfortably now, it also looks stunning.

It will probably be a great base for new challenge in trying new pickups in the future. The guitar feels like a really solid instrument that can last ages.

2 dents I found on the top right outta the box. I didn't even notice them at first until my wife saw them while I was playing. 1 dent was on the edge and was under the finish so they just used it anyway. The other was a small hit like from a small screw driver. Was way disappointed because I loved the feel of the neck and that red binding was beautiful. I returned it, may buy another.

5.0 out of 5 stars Explorer On A Budget!

It’s really nice to see Firefly Guitars available on Amazon again and this revised model of the FF-LX does not disappoint. With a wonderful Blueberry finish on a mahogany body, updated Alnico 5 humbucker pickups, stainless steel frets with ball ends, bone nut, maple set neck and rosewood fretboard the FF-LX looks/plays and sounds the part of a much more expensive instrument. Comes boxed in a styrofoam coffin for maximum shipping protection. This guitar came completely playable right out of the box. Mine feels like it was strung with 9’s and after stretching and tuning, no setup was required on my end. Action was set low (but not too low) with good intonation and no string buzz. Frets were polished with no sprout, no scratching with bends and the factory strings were actually pretty good on this. Stock pickups sound very good…tone/volume controls smooth with good taper and no noise. The tuners are holding and doing their job, and the bone nut was cut/shaped nicely. The weight of the guitar was a surprising 8 lbs and balances nicely even with seated play. If you have been looking for a Explorer style guitar to add to your collection without breaking the bank, then the Firefly FF-LX is hard to beat!

Beautifully set up with proper intonation and action right out of the box and just as advertised. No issues with the components or the body of the guitar. Plays great. Love the sound the pickups produce. My first Firefly but I would buy from them again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable build quality for the money!

Just absolutely blown away at the sheer quality they deliver for the price, I have spent big big money on everything from PRS to Ibanez over the years and this thing arrives for a modest $200 and seriously is better than most $1400+ guitars out the box I have purchased. Is it perfect, no, but you can't beat it for that price......fret work is excellent even though I do prefer jumbo frets and 24 frets vs 22 that this had.....they rolled edges and nothing sharp anywhere on the fretboard, intonation is pretty darn good, I will be swapping to locking tuners but the stock ones are just fine (although pretty stiff), pickups actually really surprised me and are comparable to other stock pickups in ibanez and schecter guitars. Finish is impeccable! Definately in my top 3 of all time....no blemishes anywhere and the color just pops. I WILL be buying more!!
