I live in a dry climate and need to keep my string instruments humidified. This humidifier is easy to use and very effective. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars It keeps the humidity level steady.

I have used this in conjunction with a hygrometer. I've noticed that it keeps the humidity level in the instrument's case steadily. If you are using it for an Ukulele in its case, no need to have a hygrometer, you can trust this works. By adding humidity in an ideal level, I noticed that my ukulele sounds better. Even though I live in a state where the humidity level isn't a big concern, over the years, wheather pattern has changed to more dry and hot. I highly recommend this if you have a solid wood instrument that you want to enjoy it for a long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for the Baritone Ukulele
Reviewed in the United States on May 6, 2024
I got this for my ukulele because my previous humidifier kept growing mold in the sponge, so I was looking for a replacement. This was super easy to use but definitely let it sit a bit so all the water can be absorbed and it won't overflow. It fits my baritone perfectly. I would assume for smaller ukulele it might be a bit tight to put in. But for my baritone it's perfect

5.0 out of 5 stars Protect your UKE!!

I keep these in all of my uke cases right in the soundhole... they do not leak and keep the humidity between 40% and 50% even in the driest months!
Cheap insurance! Easy to see when they need water. Easy to fill.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hangar didn't fit the humidifier; otherwise fine
Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2020
I've used Oasis humidifiers with my acoustic guitar for several winters now, so I went to them again to humidify my ukulele. The OH-18 (ukulele) is very similar to the OH-1 (guitar) in that it is a capped water vapor-permeable tube filled with absorbent crystals and comes with a hangar to place the humidifier in the instrument's sound hole. You periodically refill the tube with distilled water which is absorbed by the crystals to form a gel (prevents leaks) and the permeable fabric sides allow water vapor to escape and humidify the instrument. The fabric tube will begin to shrivel when it needs more water. How long that takes will depend on the relative humidity where you store your instrument and whether you have it in a hard or soft case. I average around 27% RH in the winter, both instruments are in soft cases and I end up adding water every 3-4 days.

Overall, I'm happy with the OH-18 but there are a few drawbacks that I didn't experience with the OH-1.

-The hangar did not fit the tube. The opening was too small. I had to carefully enlarge the opening with a razor blade.
-I use this with a concert ukulele and find it difficult to place the humidifier in the sound hole. The tube is the same size as the one for guitars, but you place it parallel to the top of the uke instead of perpendicular to it. I manage to get hung up in the top bracing almost every time I replace it. I can't even imagine getting it inside a soprano without a hassle.

I have not had leaks with any Oasis Humidifier I've used. A few tips:
-Be very careful when you first open it so that you do not spill any crystals. If you do, then order replacement crystals. The crystals prevent leaks by turning the water into a gel, so you need the full amount.
-Only use distilled water. Impurities in tap water can block the pores in the fabric.
-Don't touch the fabric if you can avoid it. Hold the humidifier by the lid or the rubber top and bottom.
-Be careful when refilling not to get the outside of the humidifier wet. Use the included syringe and go slowly-the gel will expand as it absorbs water. Do not overfill. If you overfill, you will weaken or burst the seam on the tube and may get leaks. I also leave my humidifier out on the counter for about 10 minutes after I've refilled it to be sure that all the water has turned to gel before placing it in the sound hole.
-I think it's better to refill before the humidifier has started to significantly shrivel. There's less stress on the seam that way. When it's reduced in volume about 25-30%, I refill it rather than waiting for it to start to really crumple.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great

Its dry in Colorado and this product works great. However, the instruction are meant for a more humid climate, so it requires H2O refills more frequently that is reported in the packaging if you live in a dry climate. Colorado never reaches 40% humidity. But still works great

5.0 out of 5 stars Spend the $20. Its worth it.

We have 4 types of guitar and ukulele humidifiers. These are the best. They last a week or more. Get a couple humistats, stick em' around the house and especially near the ukes and instruments if they are left out hanging or on rests. If you are reading 25% humidity or more, get this one for each sound hole. If you read below 25%, get the tan version of this, the "+." This will release much needed extra humidity to protect your babies. For my situation, I need tans all around.

Don't think you can avoid humidification if you hold instruments in cases. You still need one in the sound-hole. If your room where you store the instruments dips (ever) below 35%, (this tends to coincide with drops in temperature outside) you need to humidify the room consistently (get a whole house one, trust me, its cheaper and so much easier in the long run.) or you risk permenantly damaging your precious instruments. Electric instruments also need humidification, as the glues and parts will separate. Unfortunately, it only takes ONE drop or major rise sometimes to crack or warp a good quality uke. Trust me, I own 3, 2 are made in Hawaii- a Kaniliea' and a Kamake- the best. The Kanilea' tenor is a spalted koa and ran me $900. It cracked immediately along the back, humidity related. The frets that were like butter became sharp. The fretboard warped as well as the top- nit enough to see; but enough to create issues when playing certain chords. It was an expensive lesson. The kamake concert lives in its hard case with its oasis himidifier and is perfect. If you can't consistantly control your humidity to be 35-55%, (much harder than it sounds) you need these. My humidity issue is so all over the board and my instruments valuable enough that I will eventually buy a glass disay case specifically for my uke collection. They don't tell you this stuff when you buy the instruments, but you gotta take care of them, its more cost and work. Don't buy any instrument of significant value if you don't have a controlled humidity environment. The easiest way are these oasis humidifiers (much better than thr crappy inserts that you need to fill constantly and drip.) and leaving the instruments in their hard cases when not in use.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Concept, but poor design

Nice idea for maintaining humidity, but poor design resulting in leakage at the seals. Instead of protecting your instrument, it could end up damaging it. Consider alternate products.
