5.0 out of 5 stars HUSH-X Guitar
Reviewed in the United States on December 29, 2023
Updating this review, after Customer Service got involved and went above and beyond to make everything right, and then some.

I ordered this HUSH-I guitar and my experience was not the best, but I was offered to review the HUSH-X, which was more along the lines of what I wanted.

I wasn’t expecting much after the original experience with the Hush I, but the new HUSH-X guitar really surprised me -- positively.

The fit and finish of this little guitar is really top notch. It was a very pleasant experience opening the gig bag - a very nice gig bag, I might add.

The devil is in the details, so I enjoyed finding that they had included a strap for the guitar, (along with one for the gig bag itself), as well as a 1/4” cable.

To top it off, I noticed the little fine-tuning wrenches are well located inside of the battery compartment lid, but they also included an additional set, plus some extra saddle screws. Very nice touch. Never seen any other brand do that.

The metal arms on the HUSH-X are 1000% better than on the HUSH I. They feel much more secure, and being able to mount them without the need for a tool is game-changing.

As for the tone of the guitar, it plays nicely. Once I tuned it, intonation on 4 out of the 6 strings was perfect. The other two (low E and A) need some minor work, but nothing too bad. The action is a little bit high for my taste, but on this HUSH-X it should be easy enough to adjust.

I was surprised to get such good resonance from this little gal. And the pickups do a good job. For those interested, it doesn't look like the pickups can be moved up and down, like on a regular Strat or Tele. These ones seem to be set at one position and they need to be kept there.

The neck on this HUSH-X feels really nice but, in all fairness, the neck on the HUSH-I also felt great. And the fret work is truly spot-on. No sharp edges at all. Buttery smooth when sliding up and down the neck. And the fret ends were nicely rounded.

I’m also very impressed with the tuning machines and the bridge in general.

The tuning precision is really really solid. I’m still playing with it to get more familiar with the intonation on this system, but the tuning is so much more improved in this HUSH-X guitar over the HUSH-I, which needed the little wrench to turn them, and the were nowhere near as precise.

I wish they offered a black version. This thing in black will look amazing!

All in all, I can highly recommend the HUSH-X guitar for someone starting out, or for those people who need a small, convenient guitar to travel with. Or even if you want something light and comfortable to sit on the couch and noodle with. This is the one.

I bought this guitar with the intention of sparing my wife from having to endure my not-yet-perfected guitar skills. As a beginner of over 10 years, I already own two other acoustic guitars, but Donner is my first solid body guitar. My initial impression of the entire kit was that it's an excellent choice for beginners, as it comes with everything from a tuner to picks. The gig bag is well-made, featuring plenty of cushions and adequately sized compartments to keep all your gear organized in one place. One standout feature is that the kit includes batteries for both the guitar itself and the tuner, saving you the hassle of buying them separately.

The guitar itself is crafted with high-quality materials and feels very well-made. The tuning pegs turn smoothly and responsively, making tuning a breeze. Within minutes of opening the box, I was able to start playing. I've even included a video with this review to give you an idea of its sound from the audience's perspective. It's not too quiet, but with a closed door in a room, others shouldn't hear it too loudly. However, I must admit that the promotional video is a bit misleading—it might wake a sleeping baby if you start strumming nearby.

Now, let me share my thoughts on how it feels to actually play the guitar. Keep in mind that I'm just a beginner, so take my opinions with a generous grain of salt. I found the included guitar-shaped metal piece to be somewhat impractical. Attaching and screwing it into place takes a few minutes, and without the screws, the bottom piece can rotate and occasionally come off. Since I take this guitar with me to work daily for 15-20 minute sessions, the attachment process eats into my playing time, especially when I want to play fingerstyle while sitting down.

The guitar strap is included, but the attachment holes are standard size, and one of the attachment points on the guitar doubles as an output jack, making it larger in diameter than normal. This made attaching the strap a bit challenging, and I ended up leaving it attached all the time, even when storing it in the carrying bag. Unfortunately, this caused the bag to not close properly if I wasn't careful, and the metal buckle on the strap ended up scratching the guitar while in transit.

The weight distribution of the guitar is also a bit unusual for me. The two connection points of the strap are very close together, making the neck feel much heavier than the body. As a result, I find myself holding up the neck even during brief pauses, which can be tiring.

Lastly, the guitar's shape doesn't offer many options for placing your palm while picking or doing light strumming. While it's not overly difficult to get used to, I thought it was worth mentioning.

Despite these cons, the few pros of this guitar outweigh them all. It's compact, lightweight, and incredibly easy to transport. It appears to be durable, and I can practice almost anywhere, anytime. Plus, the price is reasonable, making it a great option for beginners.

If you're considering this guitar, I suggest considering whether your situation is similar to mine and if the issues I've mentioned are things you can tolerate or adapt to. However, I can honestly say that I have no regrets about buying this guitar, and I hope my review has been helpful to you. Cheers, everyone!
