5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Guitar and Very Easy to Use!
Reviewed in the United States on August 24, 2024
I have not played in years, though I still have my Fender in the closet. My son recently has been showing an interest in music, and I wanted to give him something a little bit more flexible when it comes to sound versus needed accessories. This guitar fits the bill perfectly. Assembly is literally a snap, just snap the fretboard onto the body and you're good to go. You also get a good set of accessories!; pics, extra strings, tools to change Sid strings and a few cool looking stickers. One thing it doesn't come with is a strap, but that's okay cuz most people like to really personalize those anyways.

As for usability. As I mentioned before, simply put it together, turn it on, and you're ready to play. The ability to change key and change the guitar sound at the push of a button is absolutely brilliant. You can tell somebody put a lot of thought into this. Additionally, the fact that this has usable strings on the body. Is something that many electric guitars are missing. They have a good amount of resistance and are pretty responsive as well. Two More features that show a serious thought process was going into making this item, are the fact that it comes with dots on the side of the fretboard, that coincide with the actual fret markers, And the lights along the side of the fretboard that show you your actual finger position. Combining the lights and the fret markers, you get a really good sense of where your fingers are without having to look at the front of the fretboard.

For those of you who love to use apps, which is great for training, this also works with the aero band app. In case you're curious aeroband also makes a drum kit and it works with the same app. The app goes through different levels building your finger dexterity and accuracy, a must for anyone who's trying to learn.

5.0 out of 5 stars AeroBand Guitar Smart Guitar - The best you can get.

The AeroBand Guitar Smart Guitar is awesome. I'm retired and have issues with my left. I can play again using the AeroBand Guitar Smart Guitar. The quality is great, and the look is nice. The app gives you great experience with the ability to play and learn many ways. I love the easy chord; this makes it possible to play with ease. I would highly recommend this AeroBand Guitar Smart Guitar to anyone that wants to play and learn guitar. Keep up the good work and can't want you your new and upgraded products.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worse than anticipated

Even after adjusting string sensitivity, the AeroBand guitar simply does not perform as advertised. Its capacity to pick up false or stray notes is unbounded. When barring chords, a finger pressed against a fret might trigger a higher note, destroying the chord altogether. As some *critical* reviewers have said, it works best when picking out individual notes, but not otherwise.

It doesn't help that some promotional videos dub recordings from other guitars.

The sound is equally awful, which is surprising given that the guitar is digital. Why couldn't they have found better sounds or installed a better speaker?

That said, I did find that the guitar is well built, and I'm hopeful that this company (or some other) will create a functioning digital instrument at some point. This instrument is just not that product.

If you search YouTube, you can find some excellent demonstrations that make this point.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you know what you're doing, this is an immensely versatile instrument. NOT a toy.

When I was looking at these, I saw a lot of standout reviews. Most were 5*, talking about how easy it is to use and how it sounds very good for what it is. Many of the 1* reviews are saying that "it's not a guitar" -- they're absolutely right, and I also believe that they're completely missing the point.

This is a guitar shaped synthesizer.

I'll start with verifying the features everyone already talks about: It is as easy to play as the other reviews say--the silicon fretboard is very easy on the fingers. I'm a pretty crappy rhythm player and I was able to play bar chords much more effectively than I can on my acoustic guitar. The right hand portion feels very guitar-like, and almost all of my picking/finger-style muscle memory served me well. The speaker is very loud and clear (doesn't have much low end punch, but that would muddy the highs.) The app is decent learning tool for beginners that know how to play but don't know how to learn music--I won't be using it.

Now--let me talk about some of the features that aren't clearly stated.

- You can use any bluetooth audio source to pipe into the guitar, playing sound/music through the guitar's speaker. This is amazing for practice/accompaniment, or even picking some backing tracks.

- You can use this as a bonafide midi controller for any DAW/Midi synth--standalone or VST. In the 6 hours I've had it out of the box, I've used it to play phat synth bass lines and smooth layered strings. You just have to know where to look.

This was a 5* purchase from me, but it's not perfect. Things I would change about it are the following:

- The palm mute function is too heavily muted--it basically kills more of the sound than a real palm mute technique should.
- Hammerons and pulloffs work mostly as you expect them to, but there is no modeling of glissando/legato, so the artificiality of the sound really comes out when you use many hammerons and pulloffs
- You cannot pull off to an open string
- You can only mute with the right hand, so an open string resonating when you don't want to can't be muted with an adjustment of the left hand.

In conclusion--this instrument does exactly what I wanted--It's going to be a beneficial practice aid, fostering creativity in songwriting, and allows ergonomic guitar-based control of unlimited sounds using MIDI. Cannot recommend enough--IF this is what you're looking for. If you're looking for something to upgrade to for a real electric guitar, you will be sorely disappointed. All of the negative reviews on youtube are people talking about things like pinch harmonics and sweeping and other advanced techniques, all done in front of boutique marshall amps... those kinds of guitarists do not need this instrument.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very nice Midi guitar but only too expensive

I think $500 should have more sound and at least build some simple sequence into it.

5.0 out of 5 stars As a beginner, this is awesome!

As a beginning guitarist, the introduction of this product is perfect! The strings on the fretboard are smooth and don't cause blisters, even when playing for hours. The steel strings by the bridge feel just like a standard guitar for strumming or plucking. In essence, the manufacturer has created a portable, detachable, all in one unit, that is ideal for the beginner and seasoned veteran alike. You can plug in headphones to practice in silence or plug to amp for the world to hear! Truly a well thought out and executed product!
