5.0 out of 5 stars Simple and awesome

The finish is flawless and gorgeous. The shape (flat face) and weight are so comfortable. The thinner-C neck is fast and smooth. I like the pickups, as they have a warmth and punch that provide nice tones, if you play more clean than distorted. However, it does handle distortion quite well, just not really a chugging machine. I play classic rock and pop, and this little axe is perfect for my application. Not exactly a Les Paul, but an attractive instrument with its own tone. Great bang for the buck. Would make a perfect backup axe at a gig. I wouldn't pigeon-hole this as a beginner's guitar.

5.0 out of 5 stars Guitar & Customer Service are Amazing!

Bought this guitar a month or so ago, and like everything about it! Solid sound, solid value, fretboard and strings feel good. Wooodwork is top notch. Had a problem with my delivery (that was my fault), and customer service went way above and beyond to get me straightened out. I'm hooked. Just what I needed to begin learning the guitar. Got my son turned onto Donner and now we play and share tips together.

4.0 out of 5 stars The one I recieved is "Not Good".
Reviewed in the United States on December 6, 2020
Edited 15 Jan 2021. I had to do a bit of work on this guitar. I replaced the nut, leveled and polished the frets, adjusted truss rod, replaced the pickups, replaced the volume and tone pots, and new strings. It is now a really decent guitar that plays very well.

    ***Original review below***

I've read the reviews and watched the youtube videos about this guitar.

    The good:
The guitar looks great. The finish has one piece of embedded dust/dirt that's is hardly noticeable. The neck feels good.

The fret ends are a bit rough, no fret sprout though.

    The Bad:
The string notches in the nut are too deep. The strings are almost touching the first fret with the action high at between 2.5 and 3 mm at the 21st fret. Fret buzzing up and down the neck. Mine came with the neck bowed like a banana, this is supposed to be a guitar not a bow and arrow kit. Of course there was zero torque on the Truss Rod and it took almost a complete turn (5 or 6 twists of the Allen wrench) to even start putting tension on the rod. Once the neck was straight the fret buzz got really nasty. I didn't know the correct fix for fret buzz was to bow the neck.

Lots of noise with volume between about 4 and 9. Set the volume low and the buzzing goes away -- and strangely, set it to max and it goes away. Anything in between and it's loud and nasty. The tone knob doesn't seem to do anything.

Also the pickups should be fairly level and not twisted so one side is almost touching the strings and the other is almost level with the body (The side under the 6th string should be lower than the side under the 1st string, this is not what I'm talking about.).

Whoever did the "Q.C." check on this guitar was both blind and deaf.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice guitar

I've been playing acoustic guitar for 30 years and wanted to try playing an electric guitar without breaking the bank. This is exactly what i was looking for. Sounds great, tuning might a little annoying at the beginning, but eventually it will retain it. Great for beginners. With a nice amp and pedal, you'll get a nice distortion sound and overdrive. And it looks great too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great LP for the price!
Reviewed in the United States on July 13, 2021
This is a great little LP; looks awesome, sounds way better than it should for this price, well constructed, and fun to play. The frets are surprisingly smooth. My fender strat and Hagstrom viking Dlx (around $1000 each) didn't have frets this clean. I was shocked to see that it shipped in the soft gig bag, in a thin cardboard box, with no foam around it. Mine arrived with no damage at all but I can understand how some of the other reviews show broken guitars. The strap is soft and comfortable, and the gig bag is your standard bag. I haven't used the 10ft cable since I have the Shure cordless guitar system. I'm playing it through a Fender Mustang GTX 100 and it sounds amazing!

I added $65 in upgrades to it so far; multi contact output jack, Earnie Ball super locks for the strap, Guyker locking tuners (because their screw hole on the back lined up perfect), and I have a black toggle cover coming today. The guitar and upgrades came to the same price as the DIY kit I almost purchased.
Side note: I wanted to keep the Donner tuner knobs but they don't fit over the Guyker shafts. Also the diameter of the new output jack was slightly larger than the jack cover plate.

Out of the box I lowered the bridge 1 turn on the screws, tuned it, checked the neck (no adjustment needed), my fretboard was extremely dry (it looked like dog *@#* when it starts to turn white) so I put 3 coats of conditioner on it and it looks/feels a lot better. Over all I'm tickled I bought this thing. I can't wait to throw in some hot SDs!
