Purchase for the church I attend

This cello is still at the church and looks as great as the day it was purchased. There is no tarnish in the wood, no deformation and the sound quality is heavenly.

After many years of use, the condition and sound quality are testaments of the great craftsmanship of this cello.

Let me start with this....DO YOUR HOMEWORK 1ST !

I am a beginning cello student with a former background as a classically trained flautist and am fairly
comfortable with the idea...you get what you pay for..
I did not expect the cello to be of symphony caliber...what I did expect is that Amazon's advertising, would correctly
and adequately represent the purchase.

Upon receiving...advertised bow and stand were missing ( no biggie, call and get replacements ).
The bridge is not attached (standard for shipping) you therefore must get a luthier or competent
repair/set-up specialist to service instrument ( which I did ).

I was told.. In order to make this a playable cello, I would need to:

A) Have nut rescored and shaven
B) Have new, higher ( unsupplied ) bridge replacement
C) The fingerboard needed reshaping and he could not do because it was too thin and painted (not rosewood, as advertised)
Reshaping was necessary to learn proper note placement, otherwise everything would be a 'fret' too sharp from
straining to press down string......very sore. calloused fingers and NO joy in playing= instrument collecting
dust in corner from unuse. Bowing would also be effected
D) Have the body/tonal(treble)pin and bass pin repositioned.
E) Advertised solid spruce top is nothing more than plywood with a spruce veneer...not much could be done about
this and I was told it would severely effect sound.

In all a 350$ job. Add this to the 234$..you've just spent, well you get the picture. As I see it I had 2 choices:

A)Suck it up, spend the money and I would have had a still less than so-so acceptable cello that was cheaper
than a quality entry level instrument.

OR

B)Spend the money on the quality entry level instrument that would well serve me into intermediate/advanced beginner
levels, and still have a fine instrument to resell or pass down. ( Let me state that I am a beginning adult player)

Amazon's misleading print about this instrument has cost me time, money, frustrations and delays...People, please keep ...this is mind ' YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR ' you will never find a new cello with rosewood/ebony fingerboards and tuners for less than 800-1000$. Unpainted, hardwood fingerboards are relatively necessary if you need to
fine tune instrument ,from a bowing and action perspective (mentioned above).

If you are an adult or child that really,really, really loves music, who believes they have the ability to learn and
wants to put in the time practicing and not end up hating the instrument...do yourself the favor of doing your homework....Save and research. Thanks.

Decent build quality, wrong length strings, case sucks.

Purchased for a 4th grader. The cello itself is very nice. It's a grade student level cello and is fairly affordable (and can probably be resold fairly easily as well). We bought a 3/4 size, but the strings are full size (about 6" too long). Not a total fail. But the school music teacher found it unacceptable so I had to buy new 3/4 size strings. I work on guitars, mandolins, ukuleles, etc. so their basically another string instrument - A few YT videos and it's easy enough to set everything up. The bow if probably fine but we went ahead and got a carbon fiber one - super light and can be used on a larger cello if he sticks with it.

The bad: The case is dismal. The problem is that the zipper stops before it gets to the head. So you end up messing with tuning pegs and get it all out of tune when you put it in or take it out. It's bad enough for grade schoolers to try to get the concept of staying in tune - but this is just creates another unneeded challenge in trying to learn the instrument. We ended up buying another gig bag that actually TOTALLY opens up like a normal case. The rosin they give you is pretty poor, so that was another extra purchase.

Final verdict - you rent or buy. If the child has any kind of music interest, then buying at this price point makes sense for a 4th grader. they're going to outgrow it no matter what. You can get a nice one if they end up actually sticking with it. The sound, fit/finish, tuning (and micro tuners), and overall feel are fine to get things started. If you don't know anything about musical instruments and are not comfortable learning how to even tune a cello, then renting might still be your best option because you do have to do some basic set up on these when it arrives.

Personal rant - I hate the friction fit tuners on all of these stringed instruments. between the smallest violin and biggest double bass, the tuners all suck compared to what even the cheapest guitars use. Sticking with some of this ancient tech just be it's "traditional" is really a shame IMHO. Using chalk on the pegs does seem to help a little though.

The biggest thing about me as the consumer I look for quality and companies that not only make quality products and stand by their products as in the way of customer satisfaction I originally ordered the cello after shopping around awhile it showed up and the sound post was rolling around inside its body saddened I contacted seller and they not only sent me a new one with no hassle. But I asked what to do with first one that was broken they said keep it they were more concerned about my happiness with their product ans reached out to me and asked me if I had any other needs or concerns feel free to contact them I know what they did isn't acommon practice but it made me feel good that I wasn't taken for an invoice number but treated as if I matter like a customer should be thank you guys you rock
