5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing for the Money
Reviewed in the United States on July 30, 2024
I bought this as a platform for modding and learning how to refinish/paint guitars. As long as the neck was straight, I wasn't worried about the hardware being cheap. When it arrived, I plugged it in and started playing with it. I was pleasantly surprised with what arrived.

If you set your expectations appropriately, you'll find this a very capable fretless bass for the money. Here's what you get:

    - You get a full size, lightweight, fretless bass that's a decent-looking, Jackson-knock-off-style rig
    - You get 2 decent passive humbucker pickups (Belcat) that sound better than I'd expect at this price point.
    - You get average tuning hardware (holding tune better than I expected)
    - You get an inexpensive, but workable Strat-style steel bridge
    - You get a solid, no-crackle jack
    - You get solid, smooth-feeling, no-crackle knobs with decent (100kΩ I'm guessing) pots under them

What you need to expect, especially at this price point:

    - You will need to adjust the truss rod, but I think I'd expect this on any guitar/bass that is shipped directly to me regardless of price
    - You will need to adjust intonation
    - The provided cable is kinda plastic-y, so buying a sturdy cable is in your near future
    - You will need to buy your own strap to hang this thing around your neck
    - The strings are basic steel, wound strings; not great feel, not great tone, not great sustain, but workable at this price

Other than that, you can start playing decent sounding, fretless grooves in no time.

For me, I'm going to play with this for a while before I start my project on it. For anyone else wanting to play around with a fretless bass, or students learning, this is a pretty good deal.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for the price

This is really the only option for a cheap 5 string fretless and is way better than I’d expect for under 200$. It came with a pretty good set up but I changed the strings and had to adjust everything to get it back. The action had to be a little high to avoid bad buzzing toward the lower notes but nothing too bad. As for the electronics, it sounds fine, with the exception I get some hum if the bridge tone is turned all the way up, turn it down just a bit and it’s gone. The fret markers are already wearing off where the string meets them but I kind of like that it shows it’s fretless more. Haven’t put it down since it got it and think it was just what I needed to get into the world of 5string fretless.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Fretless Fun for under $200

I took a chance on this 5-string fretless and it's surprisingly very good. Needed a setup of course, I also shimmed the neck and put on some DR Black Beauties.

The passive pickups are pretty low output but sound decent enough. The low B string is quite good, not floppy and makes a solid sounding low B.

The neck and fingerboard are really nice, maybe I got lucky with it, but the feel and quality of the neck/fingerboard is very impressive for an under $200 bass. It produces an awesome fretless 'Mwha' sound when properly set up.

I've been playing bass for over 30 years and have played several different basses and this fretless in my opinion is worth the price if you want to try the fretless experience. Just remember a good setup is definitely needed.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with this bass and having lots of fun with it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great value for any bassist
Reviewed in the United States on March 13, 2020
Beginner, amateur, pro, whatever your style playing, this bass can do it. It’s crazy light for being a five string solid body, the feet less neck makes for no buzz and smooth playing as well. The maple neck is slick as ice. The fret markers make it easy to play for beginners. I have yet to plug it into an actual amp, but I bought a VOX headphone amp and it sounds great through that as well as recording through an interface. Only reason I’m giving it a 4 star, the neck pickup feels loose compared to the bridge pickup. And the input jack needed tightened, other than than a little maintenance, this is a great steal if your just looking for a bass

    3.0 out of 5 stars It’s cheap

Just opened the box and finish wise, it’s not too bad. The fret line at the 12th fret is mostly gone, and there is a very tiny chip next to one of the neck screws. For this price I can live with those flaws.

Regarding function, the jury is still out. There was clearly no setup done prior to shipping. I’m getting a loud hum and low volume compared to my other bass. Could be that the strings have slipped the core, or that the electronics are just garbage. I'm going to take it to my luthier for set up and evaluation. I'll update this review with the outcome.
