Awesome fretless for the price. Perfect for Jazz, Funk, or Jamrock.

I'm a long time guitarist and although I've played bass before, this is the first I've owned. I decided I wanted a fretless because of the flexibility it offers. This is a perfect place to start. The finger guides on the side of the neck are perfectly marked and it came set up fairly well. I only had to tune it a little. It's very lightweight, in fact, I have regular guitars that are heavier and I was surprised at how light it was. It also feels solid and smooth. I was able to play a few popular bass riffs within minutes and although there are no frets I found it very easy to play the right notes. I plugged it in and played with the tuners a little. I was able to go anywhere from a really fat smooth sound to a melodic popping sound without trouble and with no effects or adjustments on the amp. I was playing Schism by Tool and was able to match the sound with just the tuning knobs and the stock pickups which was pretty impressive to me.

I couldn't recommend this bass enough. It's super smooth and sounds great and is perfect for a beginner or an expert. I wouldn't hesitate to bring this to a gig and even feel like I could show off with it a little since it sounds and plays so awesome but is way more affordable than other basses that cost twice as much or more. I did test out a few others from the bigger brands at the guitar shop and honestly, this plays and sounds better. I have no trouble hitting all the notes perfectly and get the same sounds as a fretted bass when I want but also can do cool techniques like sliding artificial harmonics which is impossible on a fretted instrument.

I did have a little problem with mine when it arrived today. There's a little bit of damage on the fingerboard where it's like a paper thin piece of the wood is lifting off and there's a crack which is a little sharp. But I contacted Amazon and a replacement is already on its way I just have to drop this one off at a UPS store within the next 30 days. So great customer service. I'm hoping the next one is in perfect condition because I love it so much. I don't think I'll ever find a reason to upgrade in the future either unless something breaks on it or the pickups die which I think is unlikely. I expect this will last me a long time.

Great Bass For The Money

Nice, lightweight bass. Bought the Natural. The markers are placed just right to play the right notes by placing your finger right where the marker is. Easy to play neck, reminds me of an Ibanez in size and weight, and had a nice, low action right out of the box. I restrung with Flexible Flats and had a bass friend play it so I could hear it across the room. Traces of an upright-like sound with a little punch. I am not into the midrange growly sound, but probably would do that with different strings. Appears well made and looked even nicer with a mild polishing. Just right for filling in at a jazz combo.

The bass arrived and appeared built well. Sounded nice. Woody, and action was just about right. Unfortunately the bass was not double boxed and the bass was damaged at the bottom of the body bending the strap post and puncturting the wood. The company, Stagg, was great. They shipped a new one properly double boxed. If not for the first and damaged shipment, the quality of these basses are excellent. Customer service was also excellent. I would buy this bass again.

This black beauty is really nice to look at but, it arrived with two broken knobs. The tone control is unresponsive and one volume knob is totally broken. I want to keep it, so, I’m repairing the instrument at my cost. Luckily, my local music shop is family owned and I’ve had them set up and maintain a few guitars in the past. It’s no wonder that it arrived banged up as it was only packed in a bit of that thin plastic and a cheap box. No second box! Nope what a sad thing to overlook by the shipper. ????

I opened the box and the first thought in my mind was "They sent me a big box full of bubble paper. So it was well packed. This is a nice bass for the money. I wanted to try a fretless bass. Didn't want to buy used and on a budget. I love playing this. They put extra light strings on it...flatwound. I would recommend this to anyone considering the Stagg fretless.

Sounds Good, Plays Well, Won't Break The Bank

I'm not a bassist. I'm a guitar player.
I've been playing guitar for nearly a half of a century.

I decided recently to start recording myself on the multi-track that I bought a few years ago and never used.
Consequently, I needed a bass so I thought "well, I don't know how to play bass so do I buy a 5-string or a fretless"?
Yeah, my head works that way. So, do I go from a 12-string to a 4 or 5 string?

Eventually, I went for the fretless because it would probably be more of a challenge to play and it wouldn't have those annoying frets. It's a sort of a violin with a deep voice.

Okay, here's the crux. Buy it.
It's a lovely instrument with lots of flexibility that sounds really nice for little money.
