5.0 out of 5 stars Explorer On A Budget!

It’s really nice to see Firefly Guitars available on Amazon again and this revised model of the FF-LX does not disappoint. With a wonderful Blueberry finish on a mahogany body, updated Alnico 5 humbucker pickups, stainless steel frets with ball ends, bone nut, maple set neck and rosewood fretboard the FF-LX looks/plays and sounds the part of a much more expensive instrument. Comes boxed in a styrofoam coffin for maximum shipping protection. This guitar came completely playable right out of the box. Mine feels like it was strung with 9’s and after stretching and tuning, no setup was required on my end. Action was set low (but not too low) with good intonation and no string buzz. Frets were polished with no sprout, no scratching with bends and the factory strings were actually pretty good on this. Stock pickups sound very good…tone/volume controls smooth with good taper and no noise. The tuners are holding and doing their job, and the bone nut was cut/shaped nicely. The weight of the guitar was a surprising 8 lbs and balances nicely even with seated play. If you have been looking for a Explorer style guitar to add to your collection without breaking the bank, then the Firefly FF-LX is hard to beat!

5.0 out of 5 stars So much guitar for the money!
Reviewed in the United States on May 10, 2024
So much to love about this guitar. The stainless steel round and frets play like a dream and the finish is very nice.
Though the pickups in most budget guitars are usually muddy and sound bad... These ones actually sound good.
The neck is very comfortable to play and the tuners hold surprisingly well for a guitar in this price range.
The guitar came in a body molded styrofoam box and arrived in good shape.
I expected less, but was pleasantly surprised by how much of a guitar you get.
Thank you very much Firefly for a fantastic purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Big bang for the buck

Set up out of the box was spot on. The neck needed no adjustment and the frets were level. The action was low with no fret buzz. The pickups sound nice the pots worked great. Mine is the red burst. The finish is fantastic. I own Gibson, fender and BC Rich guitars. For $219 my experience was great. I would buy another Firefly if all of the models are as good as this one. I'm very happy with it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good budget guitar

Overall pretty happy with it. The neck is fairly thin, fret ends are perfect. The action is at a reasonable height, but could be better with a full setup. Beautiful color and not too heavy.

On the downside, it took me 4 tries to get one without serious finish issues. The first 3 were returned due to surface scratches, dings, and imperfections in the finish. I will also note that the amount of flame in the top wood veneer varies wildly from guitar to guitar, with one of the 3 I returned having almost no flame in the top. The one that I kept has significant swirls in the clear coat, but at least doesn’t have the imperfections that the other 3 had. I will also likely upgrade the pickups at some point.

This is my second Firefly guitar (also own an FFST). I’m just as happy with the first as I am with this one, although it also suffers from poor finish work in the clear coat (obvious brush strokes). If Firefly could fix the finish issues, they’d have a fantastic guitar at an unbeatable price. These guitars are great for beginners and for mod platforms, as long as you don’t mind some likely finish issues.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome !

I am so impressed with this guitar. The finish is perfect and the neck is amazing. The "Ball fret ends" are to die for. I am going to trade my Epi LP in for a Tele now. I really cannot believe these can be sold at this price. I had to raise the treble side of the bridge 1/8 of a turn and that was it. The strings are even decent.

I've been playing professionally for over 40 years. I own Fenders, Gibsons, Gretsch, PRS and my Taylor. I even got 3 Chipson's, a Standard, Custom, and a Firebird. The Firebird was so bad I Sent it back. Changed the pots, and pickups, and they play great. I'd give the Custom a 9 out of ten, the Standard a7. This Firefly 10 out of 10. Pots and pickups are fine. Been playing it out of the box for over an hour. Holds tune and sounds great..Clean to Solodano overdrive. This is the most inexpensive guitar I have ever bought, and I going to gig it Saturday nite. Only adjustment it needs is the intonation is out A LITTLE. My ear didn't notice it, but my tuner did. I got my granddaughter a Firefly Tele style, my son plays it and said it's as good as his Custom Strat. Firefly builds awesome guitars take a chance on a great company.

3.0 out of 5 stars My first Firefly

I've been playing guitar regularly for over 30+ years. I've owned and played guitars from the majority of all of the known brands out there. I had noticed some videos on YouTube regarding Firefly and Westcreek guitars over the last couple of years. I tried the Westcreek Revenge first. It's a pretty solid axe after a bit of a set up. I didn't have much issues with it other than the finish could have been a bit better. I'll give it a B. Trying it out made me want to check out the Firefly FFLX. It's similar in most ways but the Firefly's action had to be adjusted a bit higher than what is prefered due to intermittent fret buzzing on random frets meaning it will need to get a file and re-crown to make it 100% playable. On a $200+ guitar I guess that's to be expected but I'm unsure if I'd want to fork out more money on such a cheap instrument. Also, just like the Westcreek, the strings are so cheap and generic you will need to change them to a good quality set if you want it to stay in tune. Otherwise you'll be tuning it every other riff you play. Is it worth the price? I believe it is. Did I wish the reviews held up to the high standards and praise? I did....but it did not. When I'm done fixing its quirks I'm sure it'll be a decent instrument but you definitely will want to know how to do a set up if you decide to keep it. I really wanted to give it a better score but with the elements that I've covered having issues that can't happen.
