5.0 out of 5 stars This instrument is Awesome!

I first bought a cheaper one, because I never played lyre harp and felt I needed the letters at the top of the instrument. Now, I know I can just buy them on Amazon. Due to the copper saddle, this instrument stayed almost completely in tune after the first two tunings. This is better than other models because other models use unfinished wood, the strings sink into the unfinished wood and it seems to change the sound. Second the sound chamber is fabulous. As I sat there, it echoed my cough ! When using it it's very echoing. Third the strings seem to be of greater quality, because they sound so much louder and purer than my cheaper one. This instrument is well worth every penny you spend, even though it's middle range in price. I found an article saying out of the top ten, this donner instrument was was number 1 out of ten at a 9.9 and they were right.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty well made instrument, and a lot of fun to play!

So, I picked this up on a whim honestly (never played a lyre harp before), b/c it seemed kind of fun.

The instrument itself is well made. It has a nice wood grain to it, and a nice satin finish to the wood. The hardware all seems solid, and the tuning pegs hold tuning well. I'm still figuring out how exactly how to play it, but once you get it tuned up, it is really fun to just pluck around on.

The accessories that come with it (bag, tuning wrench, ect) all seem well made and do the job.

The only complaint I really have with this is that the body of the instrument is too thick to put any of my clip on tuners, so I had to use a tuner app on my phone. I'll have to look around and see if I can find a clip on tuner that has a wider "mouth" to use with this I guess.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful sound

Bought this for my husband, he has wanted one for a long time. We'll made, beautiful sound. Comfortable to play. Tuning is easy. Lighter weight than some, but sturdy, so no real issue with wrist or hand fatigue. Great appearance as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars It is like playing a harp only smaller...

At first, I wasn't impressed. It arrived with a broken string out of the box and no instructions on how to replace it, though there were replacement strings included. However, I was able to replace it and then began the tuning process. Some reviewers have said that it is impossible to tune. That is not true. It is a challenge at first but that it to be expected with an instrument arriving through the mail or a delivery service like Amazon's. The first few days, I tuned it at least twice a day and now I tune it every couple of days or so and the adjustments are minor. It is much like tuning a harp except perhaps a bit fussier because the strings are shorter.

Thus far, I am finding it easy to learn but am only playing one-handed for now. The sound seems good to my less-than-perfect-pitch ears and I can readily sound out simple songs or read music. My one little complaint is that the strings are not marked as they are with a regular harp but I saw a video that suggested marking C and F with markers. It has worked pretty well and this makes it easier to see where to place one's fingers if suddenly lost.

In the end, I decided on 5 stars. It's a nice little instrument for a reasonable price. Often instruments like this are shown being played by children. It is not a toy and a younger child is not going to have a chance when it comes to tuning the instrument. With the aid of a patient adult, however, a musically inclined child might enjoy it but it is fine enough for adults.

Im new to Lyre Harps, this is the first ive owned. Ive never had a string instrument in general but this was very easy to start learning! It took awhile for me to tune, about 2 hours because I had never tuned anything and was being very cautious not to break a string. I recommend watching some videos before you start messing with your new Lyre. Its true you must tune often until the strings are played more, they will start to hold their tune for longer. Its day two of my Lyre harp and ive already learned Silent Night. My istrument came in perfect condition with a nice finish and design. Highly recommend if you want to learn an instrument quickly without to much frustration. Also another comment said to let your brand new Lyre sit for an hour before playing or tuning to reach room temperature, apparently helps strings stay tuned in the long run. I did this and my strings seem to be doing better than a few other comments.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful tone, very versatile
Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2021
This is my first lyre harp, and it is delightful. It is much easier to tune than my trapezoid-shaped "lapharp" (zither), almost as easy as tuning a guitar or ukulele. The tone quality is beautiful. I watched the videos people have uploaded and noticed the variety of ways this can be played, such as held with one hand and plucked with the other, lain on a table and plucked with a pick, or balanced in the lap and played two-handed, all of which I have done with good results. If you balance it to play two-handed, the hand on the back side can secure it with the pinkie finger; that hand cannot reach the bottom and top two strings, but if you are creative about it, you can play melody-plus-accompaniment on many tunes within its range. This is a diatonic harp tuned in C major. I have not experimented with sharping the F's because I do not know what effect the change in tension will have on the instrument, but I imagine it would work. As-is, though, you have C major, A minor and D-Dorian ready-to-go. The strings are not color-coded red and blue, but the lower octave has coiled strings and the upper octave has uncoiled, which helps. The distance between strings feels similar to a ukulele or guitar. The metal strings have not hurt my fingers like they do on a guitar for some reason. This harp came bundled with a very nice case that allows room for an instrument stand and/or a tablet or books and has a pocket in front with tuning wrench, extra strings, pick and starter booklet. Excellent value.
