5.0 out of 5 stars I Love It (but no shoulder strap...)

I really love my acoustic-electric bass. I don't know what other people are talking about when they gave negative reviews- I was right not to listen to them. The sound is perfect and if the frets buzz it's because the string needs to be pressed down harder. There is no defect in the neck or strings or bridge. The strings do not need to be changed! They sound great. There was an allen wrench inside my bass when it came.. but that's ok.

A major problem I HAVE had is that there is only one peg on the bottom to put a shoulder strap on.... the other peg is not installed. I have not fixed this and I don't know if this has happened to anyone else. The body is beautiful. I have never plugged it in to test the 'electric' part so I can't review anything about that aspect. I thought this bass was a great buy, very inexpensive for a quality instrument. I play it all the time and the acoustic sound enables me to learn and grow in a new and efficient way. You can even play chords as you would on a guitar.

I was not disappointed with anything about my bass except the missing peg for the shoulder strap. I had a hard time deciding whether to buy this 4-stringed bass or the 5-string electric acoustic Dean bass but now I know I will buy the 5-string too because they are such quality guitars.

Some people claimed the body was very large but it is not much larger than a normal acoustic guitar in the body. I am a small lady at 5'2" & 118 lbs but I can play my bass just fine; the bass is not oversized for anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great first bass for guitar players

A GREAT acoustic/electric bass for the money. I'm a long time acoustic and electric guitar player and this is my first bass. I chose an acoustic because I mostly like to relax on my sofa and play around new riffs or song ideas. Unless an electric bass is amplified it is nearly impossible to hear, whereas this one is perfect. In the month I've owned it I've messed around with it enough to become a minimally passable bass player. It has made me focus more on melody and the relationship of notes to each other in a way that strumming my acoustic guitar has never done. The strings are a little buzzy, but I hear bass guitars are like that, and really it's not a major problem. I have only plugged it into an amp once and worked fine but I can't speak to much to that electric aspect. I mostly bought an acoustic/electric "just in case" I ever need to amplify it. I would recommend this bass.

First of all, it is a $200 bass. If you are expecting it to sound like a Gibson or Martin, it won't.

That being said, it is a very good bass for the price range. I have been playing bass for 20 years and I actually bought it for my wife, who plays bass in our band. It is durable (dropped several times and is intact), holds its tune (rarely ever have to touch the tuners unless it has gone through some drastic temperature changes), and puts out a decent sound.

One thing to note is that it does not project very well when used in a full acoustic band. When paired with an acoustic guitar and a cajon (drum), you can barely hear the bass notes. While the body is large and produces some good low end, it doesn't project it well. Luckily, since it is an acoustic/electric, you can just plug it in to a bass amp and crank out some volume. Without an amp, it is best used for practice or played with just a single acoustic guitar.

It is a good deal for the money though, and the black finish is very sharp and complements the large tuners.

This bass is good for the price. I needed an acoustic to lug around, and play in odd places. My electric is nice and easier to play, but not so mobile. The strings are not bronze and will need to be replaced right away; because bronze is the correct strings to put on an acoustic bass. Also the strings that come with the bass gives it a lot of buzz in the sound. Also, it will not come calibrated; the neck will have to be adjusted with the allen wrench provided with the guitar. Also the frets are some what big which give the bass some slight buzz when the strings are not pressed down just right. The good news is that for the price it is a good deal. It is a full size bass, the sounds carries very well, and resonates a deep loud sound. I have been playing it in my band practices, when we play unplugged. There are two acoustic six string guitars; my bass is not over powered by the others at all. It is really nice for campouts also. It will need some mods to be up to par for a serious musician, but it is very playable for a pro or novice after it is fixed up. If you are a beginner; get it you can lug it around, play it anywhere, and you will learn faster than with an electric. If you are a seasoned bass player it will work if you want a cheap bass to carry around and play in strange places for fun get it. However, if you want it to play on stage spend the extra money and get a nicer acoustic.

Could not find this bass any cheaper at local, or online music stores. In fact they were all closer to the $200 range. It plays extremely well and the huge body produces plenty of acoustics; however, when its plugged in it was a bit of a disappointment. My church uses a music man bass with active pickups plugged into a sansamp DI but when I plugged this thing in to try out the electronics, we had to turn the DI up to 11 and crank the gain on the mixer. Obviously this won't compare to an expensive electric bass, but I had hoped for a little more output. That being said, I would NOT hesitate to buy this thing again. After all I bought an acoustic bass to play it acoustically and probably will never plug it in again to be honest.

The packaging on the other hand is bare minimum and the bass I got came dinged up on two corners, a dent in the back, and a huge crack. With a quick logon to Amazon, they shipped a new one overnight (which looks perfect due better packing) and gave me 30 days to send the other one back. And they paid for shipping. Awesome customer service for them to spend all that money on literally flying another one in for me the next day and paying for the other one to go back!
