    I'm a musician who has been playing the guitar and ukulele for more years than I care to admit. Recently became interested in tongue drums and after some research bought the 12" Aklot. Honestly thought that anything that cost under $50 would be junk, but I was wrong. The drum is beautiful to look at and built like a tank. First thing I did was to make sure all the tongues had good tone when struck, then set about testing the tuning. Took a while to realize that the sympathetic ringing from the neighboring tongues was affecting my tuner, but once I muted the two tongues closest to the one being tested all was well and happy to report all tongues in proper tune! By the way, this model is in the key of C, 440hz standard tuning. Thanks to the decals on the tongues, its easy to see what note each tongue is. Using some simple music theory I quickly started making beautiful music. Be aware that this drum requires using the included mallets to make a good sound. My only complaint is using just your fingers is not enough to get any decent tones out of the drum and I do not care for the finger picks.
    The drum now sits on my coffee table in the Florida room and I play it constantly.
    Are there better and more expensive tongue drums available? Of course, but at this price its a steal and a wonderful introduction to this fascinating and extremely pleasing instrument. Bring some magic to your life and let this drum mesmerize you. Peace.

    I really did't expect much when I ordered this instrument; more experiement than anything else.

    However it is a pleasure just to piddle around with it and settle down from a busy day. It has one octave in (C) and with a bit of practice I can pick out a tune, but mostly simply playing with nothing in mind makes the experiment quite soothing.. This just might the first of these I might buy.

    Everyone will tell you to go to a small builders and spend $3k before even touching a tone field... I wanted to find out if I like it and this was perfect for that. The ding came in 0 cents of, 2-6 about 7-15 cents off, and the top 3 somewhat unplayable. BUT, it's a cheap instrument and depending on which way you push the tone field, it will raise or lower the fundamental note. I was able to tune it so far so all the fundamentals are within a few cents from the note. It sounds GREAT and I am happy I purchased this first.

    Easy to play, not too heavy on your lap but still good weight to it, finger pads are junk though. Biggest I could find at a local music store was 8 inches and over 50$. I got this 10" for 43.38 after tax from Amazon. YouTube has a lot of reviews on this one and I liked what I'd seen and heard out of this drum. Good sound for price range. I believe this one only comes in gray.
