5.0 out of 5 stars Super great pocket trumpet

I would judge that this little pocket trumpet has a high level of quality , super value for the money and appearance is beautiful The sound is great - what I was hoping for. Been playing trumpet for decades and have many quality trumpets. The little pocket trumpet does (in my opinion) a good job of competing with trumpets much more expensive I’m extremely pleased with this purchase. Before ordering , I had some trepidation but no more . From my perspective , I can’t believe Cecilio can make such a quality horn for its value price !
KK Music and Amazon were super great with delivery time . Ordered one day and had it the next. I hope to use Kk for future music supplies

5.0 out of 5 stars So you bought a $100 trumpet...

Give or take a few bucks. I picked mine up almost 2 years ago. I won't say I play it often. I've been playing trumpet on and off for over 20 years. My normal horns are a '92 Bach Strat 25 for classical and a '56 Olds Super for jazz. Why'd I buy this? Because it was $120 (when I bought it).

TOTALLY worth it.

Okay, the bad, first.

1. Feels like it's made out of tinfoil.
2. The stock valve action is 'adequate'. Lap them, or give them a few slides through some 1000 grit sandpaper, then oil them up. Swap in some better springs, and you get much better response.
3. Slide action is decent. I had to take the 1000 grit to the 3rd valve slide, though, to get it more agile. A few twists in the 1000 grit, oil and grease, and it's great.
4. The black lacquer is uneven at the welds and starts flaking off from protrusions almost immediately.
5. Spit valve springs are cheap, and are just mashed against the tubing with no reinforcement. Get yourself some real springs off Ebay, then cushion them with some rubber or plastic. The rubber spit valve pads seem fine.

Now the good!

1. With a few mods, you have a horn with decent mechanical action.
2. Comes with the typical 'beginner' mouthpiece, Bach-style 7c, but do yourself a favor and get a 3c.
3. It sounds DECENT. Yes, it actually does.
4. It's tiny and fun. Look at it. IT'S SO ADORABLE! And the case it comes in is pretty good. Nice and padded, but still only about the size of a shoebox. Totally portable.
5. It was $120. Take it to the desert and play in a sandstorm. Dive in a pool and bubble out some Buble under the water. Stick it out the window on the highway doing 105 and see if you can outrun Flight of the Bumblebee. Strip the lacquer off and spray paint it pink with gold glitter sparkles. Who cares!
6. Prop it upright and use it as a kitschy flower pot, a statement to the elasticity of today's high-precision, off-shore brass manufacturing! A lone moth orchid would look especially shway with the flaking, black lacquer.

I love this horn. It's fun. I stick my custom mouthpiece in this thing and wail. The bell is so close to your face you hear nothing but sound, and it's not a bad one. The slotting is a little bit weird at first, but it's not impossible with a little practice. I love taking this horn with me wherever I go; you never know when you might come up on a lonely drummer in need of a horn player!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great sound, value, and it will bring a smile to the face of everyone who sees it

Seriously. This Pocket Trumpet is adorable. But don’t let that fool you. This Trumpet has a sweet mellow sound with all the tone of a full sized Student Trumpet. The valves are surprisingly responsive. Take the advice of other reviewers and thoroughly clean and oil the valves before ever trying to play it. I, too, am a big “Blue Juice” valve oil fan. I used the oil provided with the horn to clean and lube the valves the first time and poured a generous amount of the included oil both into the bell and mouth pipe (half the bottle) to protect the interior. Then I finished up by lubing the valves again with Blue Juice. It works great!

It has a very solid feel. Nothing junky about its construction. My regular horn is a good one and it is unquestionably easier to hit high notes with that one, but I’m really thrilled with this product and its capabilities and sound.

I recommend it highly.

Additional comments after 2 weeks of playing it every day:

I love the horn more than ever after having played it for more than 30 hours. It works and sounds wonderful. I even convinced my nephew to buy one cuz I like it so much.

I recommend the Nickel finish highly. It’s classy looking.

Three years have now passed and I love this horn more than ever. I play it every day. It still looks and sounds great. Valves work great.

Four years have passed (5/29/24) and I love it more. I don’t even bother with my regular sized (Bach) Trumpet anymore. I love this silly little horn so much. I play it often and oil it every time I play and the valves are fast actioned and never fail me.

One of my favorite features of this horn is that you don’t have to look at the valves after you oil them to make sure they are put back in right to align the valve with the tubes. Just by turning the valves lightly the guides pop into the right position every time. This makes oiling ridiculously easy and fast.

I don’t know why I didn’t mention this in earlier postings.
