5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent tool, backed by good customer support

I bought this when an ice dam caused a leak recently. When I unpacked the parts I found the rake head had 2 small cracks. I contacted Avalanche support and customer service was efficient and helpful. They immediately shipped out a replacement part. I have used the rake twice and found it worked well, is light and easy to use. The poles are easy to snap into each other and take apart after use. The only exception is that it was hard to get the final pole into the rake, but I suspect this is deliberate, so that the rake head-pole connection does not flop around. I leave the rake attached to one section of pole, when storing. The sections are only 4 feet, so it is still easy to store all the parts in a corner. There is a tradeoff between weight and ruggedness in snow rakes and I like the design. Ruggedness seems fine. When it gets hard to pull, backoff and pull a bit less in each pass.

I strongly recommend the Avalanche SRD20 as an excellent tool, backed by a reliable manufacturer. They mold both the URL and 800 number for customer support on the rake.

We have had two straight winters where we have had over 5 feet of snow. Last year I had neighbors spending thousands of dollars into have contractors to come out and shovel off their roofs. This tool helped me to pull down the snow from the areas of my roof where we do not have heat tape. The sun took care of the rest so I did not have any ice dams or roof damage. I will caution that you will still spend considerable time shoveling the snow that you pull down, but it was totally worth it to have the peace of mind that my roof was clean.

I live in northern Michigan. It's not unusual to get 12+ inches from a snow strom. I got hit with two back to back. 10in. The first storm, 14in the second storm. So with 2ft of snow on my roof I needed to get the weight of snow off it. I never owned a roof shovel before so I got on Amazon and looked them over. This shovel caught my eye right away because it's USA made and had decent reviews.
It's simple and sturdy design is straight forward. Some shovels are heavy but this ones light weight enough that your shoulders will thank you. The wheels are sturdy and will save you from damaging the shingles. The 20ft length ( five poles ) is just right. The plastic shovel head is thick enough material and it's firm enough it won't flex. I also like that it comes with a hanger that enables me to hang it on the garage wall and out of the way. This is a good roof shovel and it saved me countless hours as opposed to climbing on the roof with a snow shovel to push the snow off. I'm happy with this and it gets the job done. I gave it four stars instead of five because I belive it could be improved by having a downward angle near the shovel head like some others have. However I'm happy with it and will be using it every time I get a chance.

Wow, I wish I had this years ago. This is the best roof rake I’ve ever owned. It had small wheels that help protect your roof shingles. It was also incredibly easy to assemble. Worth every penny.
Good times guy
5.0 out of 5 stars Works great. Be careful about stiff neck!

Everyone thought I was crazy for buying this 4 weeks ago, but Two days ago we had this 8 inch snow in west central Indiana. So I guess craziness pays off. The tool is generally easy to assemble. It's better to do outside cause it's hard to get two assembled units through the door. And if the temperature is 8 degrees, it doesn't feel good taking them apart. Plus, if the snow is that deep, it's gonna get inside your boots, even if you're careful.
Once you start with the little one foot sections by the edge of the roof, it's not too hard. You have to get used to maneuvering a long pole, and let the rollers do the work. If you try to lift the head while it's on the roof, it's a lot of work. I made an effort to take breaks and not overexert arms. Once I got the hang of it the snow comes off pretty easily. It's harder to get the snow off valleys, especially if there's a metal water barriar at the bottom of the valley.
It helps if the ground level is higher. The front of my house if like that because the ground is higher. The back of the house was more work because the ground sits lower.
After doing the job, I thought this is great, I didn't injure myself, then I got to realizing that my neck was stiff and a bit painful from looking at the roof so much. I had never thought about that, since I didn't notice it at the time. The neck is better today. I did notice my forearms being achy also.
So, over all, I'm glad I bought the rake and would very much recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely the best

I have used my share of snow rakes but this one is the best. With multiple sections of pole and rollers to keep the blade off the shingles this unit makes short work of piled up snow on the roof. My home is single story so I only needed to use a couple of sections of the locking pole. I had waited a couple of days for the temp
To come up before clearing the roof and to my surprise this unit actually cut right through the accumulated ice. I was carful to avoid going too deep on the sections that have heat cables but the rollers seemed to avoid disturbing them. Great unit and appears to be well built and worth the money. I don’t usually clear the roof until it has accumulated about 1 foot of snow but the way this thing works I may clear it more often.

The unit had some issues, the hole on shovel had to be modified to make it fit the poles. The mounting bracket is poorly designed, the bracket really doesn't have a screw holes for mounting. The same bracket has an inferior snow shovel holder. On the bright side of actual use as it's intended use is outstanding in clearing snow off the roof with having wheels keeps it off the roof. 5 star for that but overall 3.
