5.0 out of 5 stars Lasted the whole winter in bad conditions

Last year I purchased this exact cover and it didn't work out. By early spring the cover was torn and basically only functioned as a sun shade.

I did some research and realized that this was a user error and not necessarily the product, so I gave it another chance.

This time I was very careful and followed the directions. The cover was put on correctly and so far has held up to some very windy conditions... The same ones that did in last year's cover.

I will update if this cover is shredded in the spring, but I don't anticipate that being the case. It isn't the thickest cover, but should get 2-3 years. Even the expensive ones start to fail after that.

UPDATE: We have had some terrible wind over the past few weeks and the cover has held up well. I recently drained the water off the top and there is no damage to the cover.

As I said before, the key is to follow the directions and make sure the cover isn't pulling on the side of the pool. It has to be sitting inside with slack. If so it will hold up. No cover will make it with all the weight of water pulls on it. Follow the directions and this is just as good as covers costing three times as much.

UPDATE #2: We are now on year four and the cover has held up. I will definitely buy this again. Just make sure you follow the directions and it isn't too taunt and you will be good to go!

Had one of these before. They are good and tough keeps the pool clean of debris. They will not stand up to three inch in diameter hail which is why I’m purchasing again. But I don’t expect anything to make it through that after looking at my vehicle damage. Would definitely recommend because the cheap alternatives rip and tear in the wind. I doubt I get 12 years out of it in Oklahoma weather but even 3-4 years it’s worth the money. Good overlap and easy to install. Cable can be made banjo string tight and the ratchet grips it effectively.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good cover material, weak ratchet

Basically, it's a quality fiber-reinforced cover with metal grommets for the vinyl coated cable the securely wraps the cover around the pool using a hand-turned ratchet gadget. I'm happy winterizing our 18' round Intex with this cover except for the ratchet quality.

We had a few issues primarily related to the wind gusts in our area. Without water on top of the cover, the wind would create upward pressure forcing the secured cabling to climb the exterior of the pool. The soft-metal ratchet that tightened the cable was tight as possible without breaking. To prevent the cover from climbing, 9 ground stakes were placed around the perimeter of the pool, and a light-weight nylon rope wrapped the pool in a zig-zag pattern tying the cover (through the cover's metal grommets) to the ground stakes. On our 18' round Intex pool, the stakes were placed at every other pole (and at angle closest to the ground.) This tie-down pattern helped to create enough resistance to the incremental climbing effect caused by the relentless wind gusts. This was last year, our first year.

Unfortunately, we didn't properly store the cover over the summer. I'm guessing it was the lawn mower's exhaust muffler that burned a hole in the cover. The hole was about 1.5" in diameter, and I didn't notice the hole until the cover was draped over the pool. This was frustrating since I just dosed the pool with shock and algaecide. Anyway, I could reach the hole and managed to patch it using the rubberized Flex Tape (as seen on TV.) The tape was applied to both sides of the cover. Super sticky stuff. I wiped both sides around the hole clean, and then placed the rubberized Flex Tape on each side covering the hole top & bottom. The temp was about 45 degrees F at the time, and the cover wasn't totally dry when I applied the tape. But the tape adhered nicely -- I burnished the two sides together. If your cover has manageable tears or holes, it might be worth checking out the rubberized Flex Tape... as seen on TV.

The next and hopefully final problem is the weak ratchet. The relentless wind gusts (we live near the Great South Bay on Long Island) put enough tension on the ratchet assembly forcing the ratchet's pawl pin out of the housing. As a result, the cabling loosened, and the cover draped into the pool. BTW, this happened the day prior to the planned zig-zag tie-down mentioned above. Until I locate a better ratchet, I'm using a mini C-clamp to keep the pawl & pin in place.

Given a better cabling ratchet, I'd give the product 5 stars.

1.0 out of 5 stars 2nd time buying, but this one was a horrible cover

I purchased this pool cover on September 3rd 2023. It was put on my pool in Nov 2023. I kept all water and snow removed from the cover during the Fall and Winter like I've always done.

Ive owned a pool for over 15 years and just purchased a new one in 2023. So, I know how to maintain them and how to properly keep a cover from prematurely being destroyed. But by January 2024 the cover was already aggressively disintegrating, ripping, and pieces falling into the pool.

By March when it was time to uncover the pool for the swimming season, there was little to no cover left to remove, except off the bottom of my brand new pool because by then it had completely disintegrated onto the pool's bottom.

This was the 2nd one of these same Blue Wave covers that I've purchased. The 1st one was in 2021 and that one was much better, and lasted through 2 entire seasons with it being removed in the Spring, cleaned, stored, and then reapplied the following season.

IMO, Something has been changed in the quality of these covers since 2021 making them useless to survive through even 1/2 the season that it's needed.

The description says a 12 year cover but this time it was more like 12 days. I have no problem purchasing a new cover every season as needed but I expect it to survive at least through 1 entire season, not just 2 months.

I will never be purchasing another one of these covers because when it can't even make it through 1 entire season with great care being given to maintain it, it's not worth my time or my money.
