5.0 out of 5 stars All Things Considered, a Great Battery

Simply put, this is a great battery. I only have two gripes with it, but it has performed well in every 20v application I have put it through. I tried to upload as many photos as I could to give you a better sense of the size including a comparison between the 1.7ah Powerstack and 5ah XR battery it replaces. Even threw in the beefy 15ah XR for good measure. These photos should also give you a better idea as to what it looks like on several tools.

Pros:
- More runtime: Besides the FlexVolt batteries, I've noticed a good difference in runtime between the 5ah Powerstack and 5ah XR battery.

- More consistent power: There is definitely more consistent power output in this battery (1.7ah included) than all the other XR batteries. This rivals the 12ah Flexvolt FlexVolt in terms of power consistency. That is impressive. It is most noticeable when I'm using tools like the cordless heat gun.

- Rubber base: Just like the 1.7ah Powerstack, the 5ah has the grippy rubber base screwed on the bottom. I don't know why DeWALT refuses to do this on other batteries besides the Powerstack line, because it reduces the chance of marring whatever surface you place it on. Pretty nice.

- Larger size: Some people are opposed to this, but I see it as a benefit. Because the base of the battery is wide, it makes whatever tool it's mounted too, harder to and less likely to get knocked over. That's a problem the 1.7ah has (in my experience). Last thing I want is to knock my drill over and damage flooring or fall off a ladder. Will the overall increase in size restrict where I can fit my tool? Yes, 100%. However, it is very rare I run into this problem, and if I ever do, I can just slap in the 1.7ah and I'm good to go. Both batteries compliment each other nicely and have their uses.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Cons:
- Weight: This battery is HEFTY for a 5ah. Because of how densely the power cells are packed inside, this thing weighs a lot more than I was expecting. I think this in part to how much I got used to the weight of the 1.7ah and figured the 5ah wouldn't be too off. But it is easily 3x heavier than the 1.7ah and 1.5x heavier than the 5ah XR.

- Cost: Obviously, this was going to come up. As you can tell by the price (at least at the time of writing this review) these puppies cost some serious bookoo bucks. ~$210 - $220 for 1 and ~$320 - $350 for the 2-pack. That cost is insane for 5ah batteries and is more in the FlexVolt price range. As a comparison, I waited for Black Friday and got 2, 15ah FlexVolt batteries for $500 on ACME Tools. Pretty crazy these can cost almost as much as a 15ah if you're patient. For myself and my business, I can afford it and the time saved due to the power output is worth the longterm cost, so this purchase made sense to me. Time is money. But the group of people this applies to may be a little niche and not worth the cost, especially since you can easily get 2, 5ah XR batteries for $150. At the end of the day, to each their own, what makes sense to you, may not make sense to others.

Would I recommend this battery? To very few people. Is it a great battery? Absolutely.

These batteries are great but you need to upgrade your charger or they take forever to charge. The battery life and power is noticeable when using a saw or impact. There definitely lighter also

5.0 out of 5 stars Fairly power dense battery
Reviewed in the United States on November 27, 2024
It's one of these 5ah batteries and their 12" chainsaw you can cut down a tree, delimb it and cut into 3 foot sections and usually have a bar left, these trees are about 50-60 feet tall and 12" or so diameter base.

With the 6.5" circular saw they run it effortlessly compared to my other dewalt batteries, I mean the saw seems more energetic and just refuses to loose rpms.
with any of my other dewalt tools I've yet to need more than one battery per job.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Price for these

Good price for these batteries and they did appear to be genuine dewalt batteries. Charged fine, discharge fine, and hold a charge when not in use.

We used these as replacement/supplemental batteries for our lawn mower and can almost last long enough for us to cut our yard (big factors include grass height and temperature). The stock battery that came in our lawn mower was 2x 10ah dewalt batteries and these new 5ah batteries last just as long.

1.0 out of 5 stars Both batteries badly defective within 1 month.
Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2024
I like the way these ran when new they made my 6 1/2" trim saw run like a big dog. But from the first day, I noticed one battery seemed to run out of juice quicker than the other. I put a mark on it to double check, and when a battery was performing poorly, it was always the marked one.

Over the next few weeks though, the other kept running worse. They cut out, often will never charge fully, etc. I have had them just over a month now, so Amazon will not take them back, and the original seller (Electronics Club) will not warranty them, they claim it is Amazon's responsibility.

Awesome batteries if you don't get a bad pair, and if you get them from a legit seller.

Side note, the 5ah Powerstack is pretty big, it doesn't fit a 1/4 impact with the belt clip on it. Works great for a trim saw. They don't last any longer than other 5ah batteries, but seem to make some tools run harder.

They seem genuine. Date Stamp says 2024 on them, but they have the older style decal. Very sturdy, with wide, rubber grip base. I just got them, but ran my flexvolt advantage (the blue store calls it power detect) grinder for quite a while and still had 2 bars left. This grinder has previously smoked a 6ah China generic, and draws a big load.

I love everything Dewalt and these batteries were a great price and they work perfectly. That’s some batteries that were about 10 or 12 years old needing replacement and these fit perfect. What I love is there not too big and too heavy
