This product is not quite as thick of plastic as the one I replaced, but at the price point I paid, I can replace the dispenser much more often. These are exposed to chlorine and sun and in the water nonstop and they get beaten up and degrade no matter what so it is nice to be able to afford to replace them more often so the pool looks nice and kept up.

This, along with Brominating Tablets, works great! Literally kept the water crystal clear for MONTHS.
I gave it only 4 stars because it's difficult to regulate the "release rate". Although it has little vents in the bottom to let material out, It has been very difficult to balance how much Bromine is entering the water.
At times, I had all the vents closed entirely, and there was still too much bromine in the water...so I had to pull out some of the tablets to account for that. In the end, I keep one vent hole open, and regulate the release by adding or subtracting tablets. It's hard to stay consistent.
I'm not sure that it would be much different with other units, but I'd be interested to see if a more expensive dispenser had more control on regulating the release of the chemicals.
EITHER WAY I recommend getting test strips and checking the levels often.
That said, This unit works just fine for me once I dialed in my process. I'm sure it will last a very long time.
