I set up a camera and tried two different bucket traps, 1st one was the rolling soda can and that was a waste of time, then I tried the "trap door" style bucket trap and I got a rat the second day out, and I thought that was it, until my camera got a few more shopping around the trap, but they all were too smart for the trap and didn't fall in, they were actually walking around the edge of the bucket and stealing the bait! That's when I went with these Kat Sense rat traps and boy I was glad I did! Easy to bait, easy to set, your fingers are never in any danger, and not only do they work fast, they are easy (and safe) to empty out.. Just squeeze the clamp over a bag or trash can and out drops the rat! I waited to wright a full review because the traps kept catching rats, and I'll tell you.. I left both buckets out for months and only caught one (probably a freak accident) and so far I've had these Kat Sense out for a month and I've caught no less than 10 rats and there hasn't been any more activity for the last couple of weeks. Thanks Kat Sense!!

We've had both the rats and mice here due to some recent construction nearby. Look, call me what you like, this part of adulthood sucks - I hate killing an animal just trying to exist when I have no intention of eating it. But these harbingers of disease are not welcome here in our house with kids. I have tried the classic traps, glue traps, bucket trap, and even hired a pest control service which resulted in one rat obviously getting cut up but wandering away to die and rot who knows where after 3 weeks of baits. But these - I bought them 2 weeks ago, just the pair, and I have disposed of 3 rats and 1 mouse so far. Best part? This is great for parents because all you see is a tail so if the kids wake up and find it before you do, no drama! Or for the young scientists, you don't have to worry about a curious, accidental trip on a little finger or toe. No big bloody mess, no fuss at all, you just pick up the house and dump the intruders. We do a quick rinse via deep sink before we put them back out, and setup is simple.

I use them for mice indoors and they have been great. I hv the Victors electronic ones which are great too, but:

    1. Even though the batteries last a while, you have to buy batteries, so extra expense.
    2. I don't know why but the electronic traps seem to cause the mice to decompose faster and give off a God awful smell.

The Kat Sense can sometimes miss but it catches so much more than misses (I'd say 80% or better catch rate). If you put the bait firmly in the little food cup, the mice have to go deep in to dislodge the contents and that's when u have best success. So use peanut butter, cheese, cooked rice, seeds, or other sticky things that sit firmly in the cup so the suckers have to go aaaallll the way in to trigger the trap.

I was shocked. Most recent catch was two mice together! I was shocked. One was caught by his tail and was still alive. The other was firmly clamped on and dead, dead.

The four best things about Kat Sense traps are:
    1. If you are awake or not a super heavy sleeper, you hear when the trap has caught something.
    2. They are easy to empty and clean
    3. The mice seem to decompose with less smell than when u kill by other methods.
    4. They are safe for your hands when you are setting them.
All this makes them easy peasy lemon squeezy to use.

I have tried other methods of killing and this the easiest. I alternate in my space btwn these and the black sticky pads by Tom Cat. The white sticky traps are useless. I guess in the dark, mice smell them and even with poor eyesight see the white a mile away.

Maybe mice (not rats) are larger in NYC...(we know well-fed NYC rats are humongous), but I use these successfully in catching adult mice. The glue traps usually take care of the young, small ones.

The only con, I lose the food cup sometimes coz I flush the dead critters and the cup falls into the toidy.

There is review I read where the person throws out the traps because the body fluid of the dead critter gets on it. I use gloves when removing mice bcoz they carry tons of diseases. Then I spray the entire trap down with bleach or food grade peroxide to disinfect wash off any residue and reuse. Since trap has no exposed metal parts to corrode, it works wonders. Using the gloves and washing the traps also makes sure there is no human smell on the traps. When mice smell our scent, they are less likely to enter the trap.
