    I saw an ad for a more expensive version of this bird feeder and I went down the rabbit hole. I couldn’t rationalize the price of the other one, so I thought I’d try this brand. IT IS SO COOL! It detects movement, so it doubles as a security camera at our back door. The picture quality is great, there’s strainer holes in the bottom to prevent the bird feed from getting gross, and there’s a large capacity for the food. I prefer it to be a little easier to replenish the bird food, but that’s not a make-or-break for me. It is so convenient in all other ways that I am good with it. I also love how this bird feeder comes with an additional solar panel to capture additional light. It really helps expand the opportunities on where you want the feeder, regardless of sunlight in that spot. Seriously suggest you try it before spending a ton on the other brands that cost 2-3x more.

    This camera not only helps identify the birds that come to eat at the feeder, but we can see any little thieves that don't belong. We moved the feeder around a few times until we found the best location and it is working great. My dad enjoys checking to see how many birds come to eat every day and he also loves the eco-friendly features like the solar power battery. I think it is so cool that this feeder comes with a camera and an app with a free option so you enjoy birdwatching year round no matter what the weather is like!

    The roof over the feeding area has worked well at keeping the snow off of the food and sensitive electronics. This was a birthday gift that I gave my dad in the fall so it has been outdoors for the winter snow, fall rain and several days of sunshine. It is holding up great and has not had any issues. There are instructions provided on how to set up this bird feeder. My dad is pretty tech-savvy and was able to set it up on his own. I recommend you get someone to help you set it up if you are giving this to someone who is older and less mobile or unfamiliar with tech setups. Other than that, this feeder makes a fun and unique gift for anyone who enjoys birdwatching.

    This was a super easy install and set up. I just followed the instructions in the email that I was sent after installing the app and got it connected to my phone pretty easily. The only tricky part was finding the power button under the rubber insert in the top of the camera itself to set the camera into search mode to find my phone. The bracket for the feeder and the solar panel were very easy to install and attaching the feeder to the bracket was simple.

    It's taken a bit for birds to find the feeder since it's apart from my normal feeders, but I do have some Blue Jays regularly visiting now. The camera has a motion sensor and records a chosen number of seconds when the sensor is activated. To take a picture, you basically take a shot from the video. It works pretty good and the pics are fairly good quality overall.

    This works like it should. We have WiFi six and the range is great with this. The solar panels keep it charged up perfectly. Watching the birds is fun and this doubles as a security camera. The app works well and is straight forward.

    The PeckCam Bird Feeder is really attractive and seems well made. No problems with mounting the bird feeder. It does NOT come with a USB charging cable so you'll have to provide your own for indoor charging. Just plug the cable into the back of the bird feeder. The roof can be easily unlatched to add bird seed. The seed tray and perch are nice and large. Installing an SD Card is a pain. Tilting the camera fully forward is difficult. You have to remove the rubber cover to access the start button and SD card slot. The bird feeder roof design makes it very difficult to access the panel, remove the USB plug and even more difficult to insert or remove an SD card. The card reader is not working properly on my PeckCam. I tried 4 SD cards, 2 SanDisk and 2 generic. All work fine with other birdcams. The PeckCam wanted to reformat one SanDisk but hung at 99% and failed. The others were recognized but I reformatted after glitchy performance. I was briefly able to access the SD card settings but no more. The app just hangs. I tried resetting the birdcam. Didn't help. You'l need a jumbo paper clip since no reset pin is provided with the PeckCam. I cannot record or download to the SD Card no matter what I do. Yet the app will sometimes record a motion activated feed to the card. You cannot delete SD card videos like you can with those stored in the cloud. Instead you have to reformat the card. You're suppose to be able to download Cloud videos. Each time I try, it hangs at around 60%. I can do live recordings and snapshots which are saved to my Samsung phone as .png and .mp4.

    I loathe the VicoHome app but it's far superior to CoolFly and Tris Home. You'll have to play around with the configuration settings to optimize performance and video quality. I found this to be a time consuming and tedious process since no instructions are provided. VicoHome offers a 30 day free trial but you must sign up for the auto-renewal monthly or annual subscription plan and provide a method of payment. You must cancel before the trial ends several days before expiration to avoid auto-renewal charges. Don't waste your money. You already get free cloud storage (0.5GB) with a 3 day turnover. You should be able to download the Cloud videos to the SD card but I'm unable to do so on the PeckCam. As a side note, another irritation is that I have limited drive space on my Samsung phone so whenever I install a new app I set it up for external SD card storage. VicoHome will not allow you to use external SD card storage on your android phone. If you try, the app will crash. You must use internal storage.

    Overall this whole PeckCam thing has not been a joyful experience - the totally frustrating VicoHome app, the difficulty accessing the birdcam slots and power button and the problematic SD reader.

    About Cloud storage - I contacted VicoHome customer support about free cloud storage and got the following response:

    "If you have no plan, you can enjoy 3-day less than 0.5GB of cloud video storage. If the storage of recordings does not reach 0.5GB, you can access all recordings in the last 3 days. But if the storage of recordings is over 0.5GB, older recordings will be deleted automatically to free up storage space to record new recordings, even if the older recordings are within the past 3 days."
