    Quick and easy. No chemicals to mess with, no expensive meters. They give a reading almost immediately and they are accurate enough to tell how hard your water is and if your water softener is working efficiently. I would not recommend for scientific purposes where you need a precise reading however.

    I had a whole-home HALO5 filtration system installed recently and felt like our water was much harder than when we only had a water softener. Bought a box of these to check for hardness. Easy to use and the hardness registers almost immediately. IF YOU HAVE HARD WATER, you need to check them within 30 seconds or so, otherwise the color of the test changes (see picture). When the filtration guy came out to check the HALO5 system, he read the strip immediately, and after a few minutes and said it wasn't that hard. I asked him to use another strip and that they were supposed to be read within 30 seconds. Within just a few minutes, it starts showing the original color of the test strip (which is green for soft). You can still see some of the rust color, but the green definitely shows through. I tried this with distilled (soft) water and the test color showed very soft. After an hour it was the same color just a bit lighter. BE SURE TO READ THE STRIP WITHIN 30 SECONDS FOR ACCURACY!

    The water hardness test kit was easy to use and accurate. I tested the kit against another hardness test assay and the results were exactly the same giving me confidence in this test kit.

    I bought a water softening shower kit in July. When I received it, I had a few test strips that came with it to test the hardness of the water. Believing that the 10 or 15 strips that came with, it would not last very long I researched it, found these “JNW Direct Water Hardness TestStrips” and they seemed like a good buy.

    The strips came with the water softening system lasted longer than I expected. I started using these JNW STRIPS about two weeks ago and have noticed at this point that the strips actually don’t Change color. When I test just softened water, it’s the darkest color and some. When I test I softened water straight from my Spicket, water that had previously tested at a hardness l Ed v Ed l of ‘13’ this JNW strip does not change color. The test of the hard water reveals the exact same color on the strip as the test of the softened water.

    Unfortunately I waited too long and I’m outside the possible return window so I’m stuck with 150 hard water test strips that don’t work at all.

    Don’t waste your money here!

    Test strips are hard to read, so I question any accuracy in results. Also, the strips have a short shelf life once package is opened.
