Just make sure which Bluetooth module you need for your Renogy device but I’ve used both with different setups in different builds and it’s great. Nice long cord to get it where you spend the most time. Would recommend this add on.

4.0 out of 5 stars DC Home App on IOS don't work, don't know about android phone
Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2023
Downloaded DC Home App version 1.8.29 to run on IOS with iPhone 6s, app failed to launch everytime. Please fix it ASAP

    Update on Dec 1st 2023

DC Home App Version 1.8.30 for IOS was released on Nov30-2023, still failed to launch everytime.

Previous App version from several months back works for BT-1, now the new versions don't work for BT-1 & BT-2. Is there anyway I can go back to old release? By the way, Renogy BT from over a year ago still works for both BT-1 & BT-2

    Update on Dec 24th 2023

DC Home App Version 1.8.31 for IOS was released on Dec20th-2023, now works on iPhone6 like a charm. Thanks!!!

    Now requesting improvements:
    1. Can we have status update rate as a user option down to every 1 sec rather than once every 30 secs? Would be really nice to see constant update instead of waiting 30 sec when testing solar panel setup
    2. I know there is a swipe down & release for manual update, but that change the status info display position and is a pain to scroll screen when your hands are not free. Can we have a smaller animated solar/charger/battery section, reduce the blank space in the "battery info" & "solar info" sections so that you see main status of interest without screen scrolling? Right now I am still using Renogy BT App for setup testing, and that App is not stable.

Bought this as an afterthought for my Renogy DC DC charger. Very glad I did. I was able to detect that I had a bad panel. AND I can adjust the charge controller for different max AMP settings. Great for when I want to charge off a cigarette lighter! One quip. It doesn't reconnect via Bluetooth automatically. So I have to "add new device" all the time. Only takes a few seconds, but it's annoying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super easy to install. Accurate and easy to read

I purchased this at the same time that I purchased a Victron shunt and bluetooth monitor. I plugged this in to my Renogy batteries and am able to monitor both batteries through one BT-2. This is a much easier and less expensive option than wiring in a shunt. Install is as easy as pluggin ethernet cable into the RJ45 jack. If you have a second battery, you need an ethernet cable to go from one RJ45 on one battery to the RJ45 on the other.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing - I used to be a Renogy fan
Reviewed in the United States on December 13, 2021
My experience with the BT-2 spans over a year. After finding emails for US based staff for Renogy, I ended up interacting (via email) with an Engineering director in China.

    Environment and background:
I'm in California. Prior to the series of activities associated with the BT-2, I had purchased various Renogy products including five LiFePO 100 amp-hour batteries, six solar controllers, ten or twelve solar panels (all at least 100 watt, hard-framed and flexible), 12v DC power 1000 watt inverters, and various cables, tails, fuses inline power meters and BT-1 modules... all to build a few solar generators

    Pros:
The panels, cables, LiFePO batteries have been behaving fine.
All but one solar controller have been fine.

    Cons:
This Ratings link is for the BT-1 and BT-2 modules. Unless the person writing the rating specifies which they are reviewing, it is impossible to know which is being reviewed.
There is nothing in Renogy's documentation that says current firmware must be present/active in the Renogy LiFePO battery to which it is connected.
Updating old LiFePo battery firmware is challenging, at best.
There has been no way, until now, to know what firmware is active in the Renogy LiFePo battery.
The BT-2 does not do a lot - it is the connection between the app (smartphone) and the Renogy LiFePo battery.
The BT-2 module itself seems to be OK, but the (iOS) app was not so OK.
    * After accessing the BT-2 app, leaving the app did not tear down the Bluetooth connection. (this was resolved during my year of working through what was originally a BT-2 issue that ended up being a LiFePo battery firmware issue).
    * There is a "social media" part of the app that is unnecessary. But you can earn points for products. There is no way to know what safeguards are in place from a data security perspective.
    * Renogy customer service first contact was horrible. Winding through the maze via emails was time consuming, but somehow I ended up with the Engineering Director in China - This person was great.
    * When the iOS app is connecting to a battery, if "1 batteries" is selected, the app won't recognize that single 12v 100 AH battery. If "multiple batteries" is selected, the iOS app will connect to the single 12v LiFePo battery.

(I specify iOS app because I don't know if the Android app behaves similarly.)

Ultimately, I ended up sending all of the (in-service) batteries back to Renogy (US) for firmware updates. After a few months, all battery firmware updates finally got done. One of the reasons it took so long was these batteries were all in service supporting the solar generator in which they were installed. I had to replace the Renogy LiFePo batteries with 100 AH lead acid batteries to remain in service to get the updates done. Swap one or two batteries, send them to Renogy to get updated, wait, get the updated battery back, swap with lead acid battery, move on to the next solar generator.

The iOS app + BT-2 + current LiFePo battery firmware are behaving relatively well. Getting here was time consuming and frustrating.

If you purchased your Renogy LiFePO batteries 2+ years ago and are having problems getting the BT-2 to work, my guess is it is not the BT-2, but the battery firmware version. Good luck getting the battery firmware updated.

To top it off, the chronology I had posted with the excruciating detail of the challenges getting through this ordeal was deleted. I did not received any notice from Amazon or Renogy as to when or why. I still like Renogy products, but won't be buying from them anytime soon... Without good customer service first contact, I no longer recommend buying from Renogy.

I plugged this BT-2 into a Renogy 30 Amp DC-DC charger with MPPT solar charge controller unit in an RV, ran the BT-2 module to a location that worked for me, and paired it with my phone by simply going to my bluetooth settings. I configured it and was getting battery and charge status all within a couple minutes. The bluetooth app is easy to use and full of features and battery system status: solar panel and alternator charging rates, house battery status, starting battery status, etc. Very pleased.

3.0 out of 5 stars Kinda Flaky

Neat idea. Love being able to see details of my charge controller on the app. However, had problem connecting initially, and continue to have problems staying connected. First time tried to connect to DC-Home, the app didn't even see it (even though it showed in blue-tooth devices on phone). Second try, DC-Home saw it, but didn't even try to connect. Third try, saw it and tried to connect, but stated "Connection Error". Fourth try... finally got connected. Now that it's connected and on the home screen, staying connected seems to be an issue. Sometimes, the device is grayed out on the home screen and must readd the device. Sometimes, the device appears active on the home screen, but when you select it and go to the detail screen, it fails to show any values (just dashes). Refresh, and it says the refresh was successful, but still doesn't show any values. Have to go back and readd the device to wake it up. Great features... if it would just stay connected.
