4.0 out of 5 stars Works well, love the color, but pricey

I only use pet-safe products on my driveway and sidewalk - we have a lot of dogs in my neighborhood and I hate the thought that one would suffer from whatever I put down. I like this snow melt because I can see clearly where I have sprinkled it - the pink stands out against both the snow and pavement. I think it did a decent job of helping clear surfaces while also providing a bit of extra traction. I can still see some crystals on my porch steps days later. I found the eight-pound bag easy to manipulate and carry, though I decanted it into a spreader can for easier application without having to touch it. My only complaint with this is the value - as currently listed, it's $22 for one bag. That's a lot more than what I usually pay (usually about $1 per lb, so $25 for a 25-lb bag), and it just does not go very far considering I do the sidewalk and my driveway and front steps. I went through almost the entire bag in one stormy week, even being judicious about how much I was using. I won't get more unless the pricing comes down.

5.0 out of 5 stars You can see exactly where you've thrown it and it's PINK!!

Finally had the opportunity to use this product and it worked great! We recently were hit with a huge winter storm and since then the weather has been in the negatives, so the ice patches that formed on the walkway and driveway have not been able to melt. This melted the ice and while I absolutely love the color of it, it served a huge purpose! Unlike the white or light blue salts, I could actually see where I threw this and where I needed more. It being pet friendly is important, of course, too! I have several animals and we have neighborhood cats and a lot of wildlife.

5.0 out of 5 stars really works, colors helpful

I've always been a tad hesitant to use ice melts because I was worried about ingredients of some of the options. But after living a few months in a new home that despite having a Southern-exposure driveway, at near 0* weather the ice just isn't melting and we still have to make it to/from work safely. We decided to give this a try. I like the color so I can see where I've spread it on the ice and snow. And the color isn't residual at all, as I was worried it may be. The melt works quite well, and I don't have any major issues with the ingredients as there aren't any observed issues with the driveway surface nor surrounding plants so far. And they're pet safe, which they have to be not just for our pets but for the local wildlife which is plentiful here. The only issue I have is that the price is pretty high compared to similar (non-colored) options in stores locally. But if it works...

5.0 out of 5 stars Pet Friendly!

I live in a mountain region where it often gets icy cold, rains, and then freezes on my porch, creating a hazard for anyone walking up my stoop. Since there are many animals in my neighborhood, I always worry about using traditional salt, as it could make someone's pet sick. I also have a lot of plants around my deck, so it’s important to me that any ice melt I use is plant-friendly. According to the packaging, this product meets that requirement. Although I’ve planted salt-tolerant species around my porch to reduce the risk of damage, I still prefer not to replace my plants every year. In the past, I’ve used magnesium chloride ice melt because it’s safer for pets and has worked well without harming my plants or damaging my deck paint it’s been a reliable solution for keeping my porch safe in icy conditions.

This review is for the Ice and Snow Melt 8 lb Bag CMA Blended Magnesium Chloride Ice Melter Effective Snow and Ice Removal Effective Below Zero Degrees (Pink).

Well I was hopeful this would as good as regular ice melt salt and was interested in it due to the listing saying it was safer for surfaces, vegetation, pets as I have a service dog that goes out with me, the encironment... and it was supposed to work well down to minus 25 degrees and prevent refreezing. Well it's not very good stuff! It was fine on just snow as long as it wasn't really cold, although it's difficult to see when it falls down into the snow until it starts melting it... but it did not do anything to prevent refreezing on the surfaces of our driveway, it did not work well at low temps either!

I had shoveled most of the snow, so there wasn't much left where I spread this. Then we had some warmer days where everything on the roof/gutters was melting and refreezing overnight, so I spread this pretty heavy on the area around the house and it pretty much didn't do anything. I was shocked that I pretty much had an ice skating rink outside in the morning! Lucky I had a full 20 Lbs bag of my trusty brand of ice melt rock salt because it has taken me several days now of using it pretty heavy morning and night to get this ice melted enough to get it broken up and out of the driveway!

So I'll be sticking with my old brand as I can't have that out there and risk my elderly mom or I falling, not to mention I don't want the mailman or delivery people falling and being injured causing them to lose work time! In our northern state, I'm afraid I have to stick with my tried and trusted brand/product.

Regular price $ 21.99 per the listing for an 8 Lbs bag, just not a winner in my book if it can't work in our cold temps!

As always I only do honest reviews and update if needed. I hope this helps you make the best choices how to spend your $.

This is a review of the Ice and Snow Melt. We don’t typically get a lot of snow in the area where I live. But I was fortunate to receive this order right before a snow storm. This blend worked really well to get rid of ice and prevent new ice from appearing. It was easy to use and worked fast. The photo I attached shows the area where I first placed the ice melt. After seeing the results, I ordered more and went back to add that to the rest of the sidewalk. I really like that it has a tint to help you spread it evenly. I received the 8 lb bag. That amount won’t cover a lot of area. So, I’m not sure this brand is as cost effective (at $21.99 / 8 lb. Bag) as some others. But I can easily say it works great!
