    Got this because I just moved to a place that uses salt in the winter. Salt can get wedged in between my dog"s toes which is annoying to him at the very least and due to the acid in salt can cause painful damage at worst. This alternative isn't acidic and doesn't bother him when walking in out on sidewalk. It doesn't melt the ice as quickly, but gets the job done and not at the expense of my dog's safety and comfort

    The shipping box was not sturdy enough for the weight of the item nor for the treatment received by fed ex. The front corner of the box was totally open. The whole box was rather crushed. The ice melt is fine. Two of the four plastic containers were broken.

    Good stuff, blue tint helps you see where you've hit and missed in the snow. No rocks or grit like some other stuff, this appears to be pure salt.

    bought 5 of these on deep discount from a brick and mortar. was going to buy more but not going to pay the $41 price indicated (middle of winter, high demand, i get it)

    3 stars for average effectiveness

    The product works. but don't expect it to work as well as the brands that are harsher on the paws. You are going to need to use a more focused spread (application) which means you end up using more for less coverage area. You can use a spreader device like a seed spreader for larger areas but in my opinion that spreads it too thin and it is much less effective. which ultimately makes this a fairly expensive option.

    The reason this is so safe on the paws is that this is the ONLY product I found that has absolutely has no salt or chloride. The sole ingredient listed is UREA CAS #57-13-6 which according to what I have found is....(CAPITALIZATION IS BY ME AND HIGHLIGHTS WHAT I FOUND IMPORTANT)

    Urea, also known as carbamide, is an organic compound with chemical formula CO(NH2)2. This amide has two –NH2 groups joined by a carbonyl (C=O) functional group.

    Urea serves an important role in the metabolism of nitrogen-containing compounds by animals and is the main nitrogen-containing substance in the urine of mammals. It is a colorless, odorless solid, highly soluble in water, AND IS PRACTICALLY NON TOXIC (LD50 is 15 g/kg for rats).[5] Dissolved in water, it is neither acidic nor alkaline. The body uses it in many processes, most notably nitrogen excretion. The liver forms it by combining two ammonia molecules (NH3) with a carbon dioxide (CO2) molecule in the urea cycle. Urea is WIDELY USED IN FERTILIZERS AS A SOURCE OF NITROGEN and is an important raw material for the chemical industry.

    It is a "A non-corroding alternative to rock salt for road de-icing.[16] It is often the main ingredient of pet friendly salt substitutes although it is less effective than traditional rock salt or calcium chloride.[17]"

    So, bottom line, it is the safest thing on the paws I could find, but expensive and not as effective as other products. Its up to you as to what you are willing to sacrifice.

    The product came with a broken lid and the ice melt spilled through the box, and all over my house, before the box was even opened. While it may be pet-friendly on ice, I had to stop my pets from consuming all of the spilled particles in my entryway. It would have helped to keep it wrapped in bubble wrap or some other cushioning in the box instead of leaving it to be damaged in transit. Very poor quality.

    This ice Melt is very easy to use and very effective. I also like the fact that what was leftover from last year stored very well without degrading unlike the products that turn into a large lump by the next winter.
