Slick, high-tech portable power.

We recently picked up this unit along with an ECOFLOW Delta 2 and solar panels at the substantial Memorial Day Sale. All told I think we saved over $1,000 vs. the typical price. and feel a bit more prepared for the heavy hurricane season we're anticipating here in Florida. We're very pleased.

LIKES
OVERALL IMPRESSIONS - This is a handsome, nicely made piece of equipment. It feels solid in every way and with the built-in handle it's very easy to pick up and carry about, as long (as you're not going too far!) The layout with the display and A/C outputs all on the same side is better than on the Delta 2.

USE AS EPS
ECOFLOW advertises that you can leave these units plugged into wall power with your devices connected on a pass-through basis, and the unit will seamlessly take over when the wall power fails, which was what I wanted. It works. They're careful to say the switchover from wall to battery power may not be quick enough to keep some computers from shutting down (like a true "UPS") but my laptop with its own battery never blinked. The app reported this tiny cube would run my cable modem, router, laptop, smart speaker, and dual 20" monitors for about 7 hours; or a bit more with the external monitors off. We work from home, and this will be a great help in power outages large or small.

BATTERY CHEMISTRY
Glade to see the Lifepo4 chemistry that trades a bit of energy density for roughly 3x the charge cycles. This unit should last as long as we need it

CAPACITY
We decided on this unit and a Delta 2 instead of one bigger unit so we can place them around the house, plugged in to critical devices and ready to go in an emergency. At 700+ claimed watt hours, this is substantial backup power source in a very compact, easy to carry package. We have this one set up in a bedroom to take over lights and run a fan. It will be nice for every single thing in the house to not go black the second we lose power, which even without hurricanes happens a few times a year in our area.

APP
ECOFLOW's app is slick, sophisticated and great to use. I like the images of the respective devices that lets you look at each one in turn, and that both this and the Delta 2 can connect to Bluetooth and Wi-fi. The Delta took a while to get it to connect to our network, but the little RIVER 2 PRO connected instantly. Just a breeze to set up.

NOT SO LIKES
Not much with this unit, frankly. It's a little odd that both this and the larger Delta 2 we bought won't register the amount of power being drawn if it's below a certain level. For example, we moved the Delta 2 to my home office and set this one up to run a couple of small LED lights, a larger LED lamp, and an Echo 5 smart speaker/alarm clock in the bedroom, with plans to connect a tower fan in the event of a summer blackout. With the fan running, it will show the power draw (about 40 watts total) but with just the lights and the Amazon device, it shows 0 output, although it will still calculated runtime. Good to know it will run the small items a long time though.

SUMMARY/RECOMMENDATION
This is a great device. I'd almost suggest getting more of these for the kind of setup we have, except I'm not sure the little RIVER 2 PRO would do as well with my wife's electric kettle, which runs perfectly from the Delta 2 and is a necessity for making sure she is properly caffeinated (which is more of a necessity for my personal safety and comfort than it might seem).

For car camping or running a kiosk or something, it would be absolutely perfect in many circumstances. I have no notes for ECOFLOW except that more power for less money is always appreciated.

We purchased the EF EcoFlow solar energy system for our camper, as we intend to do a multi month backcountry camping trip. The product arrived quickly and was packaged extremely well. The solar panels trifold into a thin easy to handle rectangle and come in a well made carrying case with a handle. We have not used them for very long but they appear to be sturdy and well made. We like that they are able to configure in several different ways in order to maximize the direction of the sunlight. The battery box is heavy, but comes with a sturdy handle that makes it easy to move around. It can be charged by the solar panels or by plugging into a regular outlet. The display is clear and easy it read. It gives you all the information you need, including however much time you have left before you need to recharge. It has 3 prong outlets, and USB options as well. On a full battery it took about 30 minutes and 4 % battery to charge my phone. We plugged an induction burner into it and boiled water.... That only took about 4 minutes, but it used over 10% of battery! We won't use that except for emergencies.
The product is new to us, so we will update our review after we have more experience with is reliability.
So far though, we are impressed. It was easy to figure out how to use it. The directions were clear and understandable. The product appears to be very well made. This will be an awesome emergency power back up for our home as well as power out on the road.

Another Version of a UPS

UPS, or "uninterruptible power supply" is the new catchword for a battery backup, one that is impervious to surge and outages. The UPS is coming to the fore in public awareness with the increase in consciousness regarding the need for emergency backup in the home. Campers will also appreciate this product with its ability to recharge on solar power.

I bought this with the 160-watt solar panel included, though it includes a less than 1-foot long cord for charging with the panel (!). This is why I am knocking a star off this item, which is otherwise well made and easy to use. Get the XT60 power cord with this. It is long enough to be able to set your unit in a sheltered spot or to reach the sun while you're using the unit on continuous charge.

There are many pro's to this system, its weight and portable design for one thing. I can carry the whole setup and a chair into the sun, easily. Set the unit in the shade of the solar panel and the fan will not kick on while charging. You don't want that unit getting either too hot or too cold. Extreme conditions render the unit less efficient and lessen battery life. Again, while the solar panel is weather-proof, you don't want the unit itself sitting in rain or snow or other wet conditions. It's not waterproof; just remember it is a piece of electronics, treat it as you would your laptop.

Another great advantage with this solar generator over others is that there are three ways to charge it. One is a regular wall plug using a/c power (5-foot cord included), the other is through a Solar/Car input port. A short but serviceable cord that goes from the car to this port is included. Your car could charge this, which could come in very handy in an emergency or camping scenario where there is little sunlight and no other electricity. The third option is via solar power, using the same input port. This is where the XT60 plugs in, the cord that you would need to buy, because it's not included.

Let me get right to the questions that were on my mind from the start, as a newbie to solar panel power. This unit comes with either the 160-watt panel or 200-watt. You could also buy the unit separately and get different panels or use some you already have. I bought the 160-watt panel with the unit.

The 160-watt panel works well. I have used it once in late afternoon sun. It was putting out 140 watts of power at first, when the sun was stronger, but as the sun went down, that dipped to 110 watts. It took about an hour to charge 20% of the battery, given that scenario. I'm sure it's a lot quicker in full, bright sun.

All specs regarding power usage and so forth is on the display on the unit itself. The app is just a nice convenience but not necessary. The display will tell you how long it is going to take to charge the unit to full capacity given the wattage that is coming into it. It will tell you how long the battery will last given the current usage. I had fun trying various appliances around my house to see what they would use and how long I could use them for. I am satisfied that the 800 watts of power that this unit stores will handle basic things like lights, laptop, phone, fan and coffee maker, for 2-3 days (not continuously) in a power outage.

Like any other UPS, the unit will hold a charge for a long time, making it a handy power option for around the home in the event of an outage. It's also whisper quiet, even if the fan happens to kick on.

Note there is a separate on/off switch to the four a/c power outlets. Keeping this off when not in use conserves the battery. Getting confused when your appliance won't work is probably going to happen once or twice before you remember this little option. Powering the machine on is not enough, you have to power these on, too.

Besides the cons of a short car charging cord and lack of solar panel cord, one more negative is the "kickstand" for the solar panel - it's consists of the panel cover and will prop up the center section of the panel. The side panels will probably flop at a less than optimal angle unless you're on a surface that holds it. I imagine that putting something behind it, like a shoe, would keep it at maximum efficiency.

All in all, it's a nifty unit which I'm pleased to have.
