Innovative MPPT Design, up to 99% efficiency and Operate with Battery when Battery is 0 Volt: Renogy MPPT technology is with a high tracking efficiency of up to 99% and peak conversion efficiency of 98%. It is the best charging solution even in cloudy environments where the max power point of the solar panels will fluctuate all day. Even when the battery is dead (at 0 volt), the controller can activate it with small current and bring it to life.
12/24 Automatically Detect and Multiple Battery Adaptation: Capable with and automatically detects 12V or 24V DC system voltages. Perfect for Sealed Lead Acid, GEL, Flooded Battery. Especially design of user mode to let user custom Lithium Battery parameter manually to solve the common issue of voltage matching of lithium battery.
4-Stage Safely Charging: Features 4-stage charging (Bulk, Absorption, Float, and Equalization) of Lead Acid Batteries and 2-stage charging (Bulk and Absorption) for Lithium batteries as well as Lithium Reactivation. Intelligent charging method prolong your battery’s life.
Extremely Safe: Full system protection from program and insulated shell safeguards your solar system. The intelligent self-diagnostic capability can assess and protect against reverse polarity, battery overcharging, battery over-discharging, overload, short-circuiting, overheating, and reverse current. The UL certificated Rover charge controller with insulated shell prevents you from accident and keep your solar system in safe in high temperature.
Easy to Understand and Set up: LCD screen and multiple LED indicators for displaying system operation information, customizable parameters, and error codes, you can understand the charging status and set the parameter better and easier with the display. Easy to mount design and mounting brackets are included for convenient set up. You can connect DC appliances directly to the load terminals, 5 load modes for better load management, make it easy for you to use your device.

5.0 out of 5 stars Upgraded lugs!

I bought my first Rover 40 about 5 years ago and it's performed flawlessly. I added another bank of panels and decided to stay with the Rover, and I like the upgraded cable lug connectors. Much easier to stuff 8AWG stranded cable, and the new clamps are way more robust and create more surface contact with the conductor.

This was the 3rd Renogy system I’ve installed on RVs. Installation was very simple, almost plug-n-play. The first install I did 4 years ago had terrible instructions, but the new manuals are fantastic.

I replaced another brand 20a controller with this one. This unit works fantastic, and the BT2 unit works great in the app. No complaints after 4 weeks of continued use.

I am so impressed by this controller. Most of the negative reviews you read are by people who aren't sure how to configure the unit. In all honesty, I did not try to configure the controller on the unit itself. I found it easiest to use the app.

Bottom line... Before installing Rover into my system, the max output from 200watt panels was 160w average.
After installing Rover I'm struggling 210w of current from 200w panel.

That's about a 25% increase! My panels are exceeding their rating with the use of the Renogy Rover.

I use the load output to charge my portable charger which fills at a rate as high as 113 watts without any issues. My portable charger allows me to connect cell phones, camera batteries, power packs, AC devices, etc.

The Renogy Rover has helped me to squeeze the most out of my panels. I'm able to keep my lithium battery fully charged, my portable charger ( on the load switch) charged, along with my battery operated devices. Over night levels drop to more than 80% and the next morning within a couple of hours I'm back to 100%.

Before this controller, I couldn't get my battery to capacity. It was completely discharging overnight before I woke up and I was completely frustrated with my system. Now that I have the controller everything is running at peak and my electronics run 24/7. At the moment this system is working perfectly. I just added a shunt to get the most accurate metering and couldn't be happier with these results.

My suggestion, trust the apparatus and use the app to change from acid to lithium battery. I think that is what is creating a lot of confusion for people.

One tip... There is a passcode in the instructions that allows you to make yourself administrator and change the password to something of your liking. After that you can change the settings as needed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Ok for 12V, Bad for 24V

Update: After not using the controller for months, I tried using it again, only to find the Bluetooth module is dead - after only a handful of uses. Definitely never buying Renogy again - Victron may be more expensive, but it works.

I bought this controller to experiment with building a system for camping. I wanted to try both a 12V and a 24V configuration, so this units ability to switch looked great.

At 12V, I noticed that the Renogy consistently showed voltage that was .1v lower than what the batteries BMS and a seperate multimeter said. I was a little concerned that this would cause some overcharging, since the battery would actually be at 14.9 volts by the time the Renogy hit it's 'fully charged' voltage of 14.8. In practice with a 12V system, this didn't cause too many issues - although the BMS did occasionally turn off charging due to over voltage. I also tried to set custom battery settings (User configuration), but it was impossible to turn off Float and Equalization modes, so Custom wasn't a good fix.

The minor voltage discrepancy at 12V grew to .3V when I switched to a 24V configuration. And where .1V wasn't too big of a deal, .3V means that the Renogy is still trying to Bulk charge the battery after it's already at 28.8v - and so the BMS trips every time the battery gets to full voltage. I thought I would check the Custom battery settings again at 24V - but not only were the Float and Equalization still an issue, but the voltage ranges for a '24V' battery were only 9-17V! To be clear, 'User' battery settings do not seem to be functional for a 24V configuration AT ALL.

Overall I'm disappointed by this device, and would not recommend or buy again. In fact, given the glaring problems with Custom battery settings on this model, I don't think I will buy any additional Renogy products.

I charge 4x100AH deep cycles with one of these connected to 4x100 PV's.
It powers my barn, I run a bunch of network gear. Access points, cameras etc.

The bluetooth adapter and app isn't useful. You have to be standing in-front of it to use it. Every day or so.

The PC cable and SW also is not useful, to me, as I'd have to leave a computer connected permanently, which would be using up all the power the charger provided, so I could monitor the charger. So, again, not useful.

Buy this device because it is a good charger, treat the apps as a curiosity.

However, if you're a "maker" then be aware this charger has a modbus interface and comes with a USB cable.
You can plug it into a rapsberry pi and write your own code to monitor it, store, analyze, do whatever you want.

See my picture... this is an rpi zero, epaper, picking up live solar data from my barn 900 feet away, from the comfort of my office.
