I use this in place of Damp Rid to control moisture and reduce/prevent mildew and mustiness. It's much more economical than buying Damp Rid refills and it accomplishes the same task.
We live in a humid, mountain environment. I use this in various containers throughout the home to keep moisture levels at a healthy level. I use decorative containers whenever I can. Ceramic works well. Our laundry area is especially prone to moisture and mildew issues, and I place multiple containers of Melt-2-Go on shelves. So much fresher.
I put low containers filled with this under the seats of my car, and make sure to replenish after any unfortunate spill of water or coffee. Avoids or greatly minimizes that dreaded musty smell that can take over a car after a dampness event.
I also love that this product is not scented. Certain Damp Rid products and other brands of moisture absorbers have overwhelming artificial fragrances which do no good for most people and can be unpleasant or even unhealthy for others. Occasionally, I'll add a drop of an essential oil I find pleasant (Tea Tree? Eucalyptus? Lemon? Peppermint? to containers to add a mild non-artificial fragrance, especially in our cars.
