5.0 out of 5 stars Great sunshade and color, but you will need to adjust it

This was the first sunshade I’d ever installed. It’s great and the quality & color are perfect. Provides nice shade and it feels at least 5-10° cooler under it. Great value for the price too. Most sunshades this large (20x20) were at least $300. However, as a new sunshade owner I did not realize how much adjustment and fixing/re-fixing would be involved. We worked on this thing for weeks - adjusting the height to fix sagging, pulling it tighter because it stretched a little after a rainstorm. It’s WORK. Worth it in the end though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what we needed

The material on this item feels thick and of quality material. It came with string but we ended up buying carabiners for each corner bc we didn’t want to chance it with the string. The strings didn’t feel thick and strong. It looks fancy once it’s up. It had a lot of creases which are going away slowly as the sun hits it and creases smooth out. Super easy to use and put up. It covers what we need it to cover. As far as when the sund direction is facing and time of day some areas will not be shaded. The shape is also what we needed based on our yard. We hooked each corner on the walls of our house and got some beams from Home Depot to attach the other side to. Once it’s been sitting in the sun it will stretch so you’ll just have to adjust as it stretches.

4.0 out of 5 stars Shade good, permeable for H2O
Reviewed in the United States on July 5, 2024
Easy to put up with some 550 cord-- we ordered the hooks that are from the supplier but they were total crap and didn't stay together in our high winds. Sturdy seams and rings to connect to.

Shaded VERY nicely over the plants we had, but it would sag dramatically in the rain and water would drip-pour from the middle where it gathered.

Which was fine in our situation-- but we've ended up replacing it with some 40% shadecloth over the plants, and moved this sail over to my husband's patio workout area instead. It works MUCH better there. Yes, rain still drips but he doesn't care for what he's doing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!!

We originally ordered the wrong size, decided to use it elsewhere, and reordered another size. It is great quality, I just used our ratchet straps to get it setup and they worked well enough we will keep using those. It is perfect even in light rain so far, it gives our back deck shade and it is perfect for the price and coverage. if you don't professionally install these things or you just aren't shade sail installation inclined, four small ratchet straps work perfectly fine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Too much direct sun damaging your plants?
Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2024
We have used these sunshades over our spa and on two other areas around our pool. But when we discovered that hours of direct sun was damaging our large potted plants in a walkway, we decided to try another one to mount over the 6 foot by 10 foot area between the garage and pool fence. This bright blue sun shade provided a life-line for all these plants and they are now flourishing. It matches the numerous sun shades covering our pergolas and augments our ocean theme. The tight weave, sturdy stitches, and strong hooks made this the same high quality of the other shades we previously purchased .

5.0 out of 5 stars Your Best Value Deck Improvement
Reviewed in the United States on October 2, 2022
For 30+ years we have been living with a SW facing 2nd story deck that was always a problem around sunset. The sun's rays could not be blocked no matter what umbrella we used. I finally decided that we would try a sail and this was the best improvement I made to the deck since I recently refinished the surface.

With roughly a 11' X 16' area to cover I ordered a 12' X 16' (about $43) allowing for a pitch downward of 25-30 degrees. The reviews and qualities of the sail were good with open-weave, slight stretch, UV block of about 80%, solid stitching and stainless fasteners. I first returned a tan sail because the color was not right but this "adobe" color provided just enough shade without being too red, ie, pleasing tone.

Be aware that you do not get the material you need to fasten to your house or poles. With the sail you get nylon rope to use to attach, but I felt it too much of a weak/stretch factor and did not look professional enough. You need to buy an alternative separate. I chose a Sun Shade Sail stainless steel hardware kit (about $20 extra) which provides some optional pieces I did not use but still feel worth getting because you probably will not know what you need until you start hanging the sail.

On the negative side there is really no instructions for installing the sail, how it is expected to perform over time or using the extra hardware.

On the positive side, it's a pretty easy project. I installed the 2 D-hook fasteners to the house with the D-hooks of the sail using 1 carabiner each. Then I attached 2 "structural steel" 3/4" pipes (bought from Lowes) to my deck in two places using fasteners specifically made for this (extra strength, painted or galvanized. for 3/4 in pipe). Also, you need to buy the real sturdy 3/4 in pipe hooks to use from that section of the store.

Finally, stretching the sail and installing. You should be able to stretch the material a bit by pulling it bhard, so keep this in mind on where to locate your poles. I used one turnbuckle to fine-tune this and ended up relocating a pole about 8" farther as you will notice the material stretch maybe 6 inches after being hung for a couple weeks and after some rain. It's solid as a rock and has stayed up in gusty winds.

I have to say this is one of the best products I've bought in terns of doing the job I expected and the low cost of the project. it's not a difficult job to do and the sail can be taken down easily.
