5.0 out of 5 stars No brainer purchase! Great product!

Lightweight, sturdy, compact, and even cool looking! Great little shovel that's strong enough to break through compacted snow and ice. I ordered this one to try it out and after use, I've ordered another. Weight is about the same as a plastic shovel but with the aluminum build, it'll last.

The only negatives I can see, which were not enough to knock it down a star, are the aluminum and the price. $20 is a little high for a shovel that sits in the trunk. However, would you pay $20 to know that you will be able to get out of a pinch during a snowstorm? I would!

So what's wrong with the aluminum? Answer: not much, but when you're on asphalt and you continuously scrap the bottom while breaking through ice, the aluminum slowly wears away. Even after one use, it seemed to develop a jagged sharp edge. Now, this will only add to the breakthrough capability, but I just wanted to mention it as after every use, it may continue to wear down. Regardless, the plastic shovel I was using rarely cut well enough to even reach the road and when it did, it broke down the shovel way quicker than this aluminum shovel that is being sold here.

So as you can see, my negatives were spun into positives because let's remember what we are buying here... A shovel you keep in your car. Don't expect this thing to change your life, but rest assured you have a fighting chance of getting unstuck in a snowstorm on your way home from work. That's all I needed to know before I ordered another.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good construction. Have used for snow and loose dirt.

Stays in the truck for winter and summer. Good for mud, snow and dirt (not hard packed dirt like a spade shovel) lightweight, and collapses nicely. Looks good and cleans well. Handy to have in northern Colorado.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic "emergency" shovel.
Reviewed in the United States on December 9, 2013
This little snow shovel is a fantastic "emergency" shovel to keep in the trunk of one's car. Because it has a telescoping handle and is very lightweight, it takes up little space and adds little weight.

I have used this shovel for the past few winters (as an emergency shovel only) and have been pleased with its performance as a light-duty shovel. I've appreciated its size as I move show out from under my tires or from around my doors.

This shovel is not good for large amounts of icy/slushy snow, but it will work well for light snow and/or small amounts of snow at a time. It is also VERY much a "shoveling" or "digging" shovel, not a "pushing" shovel. I would not rely on this shovel for pushing large quantities of snow, especially an icy/slushy snow.

After several winters of use, I haven't noticed any bending of the shaft, nor any of the other quality issues that are mentioned in some of the other reviews. This little shovel has held up well!

Last winter, I found another use for this shovel-- it is a great shovel for stairs. Because it is so light and narrow, it worked well on the stairs/steps that lead into my home.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lightweight, Durable Emergency Shovel. GREAT FOR KIDS!
Reviewed in the United States on November 29, 2015
I purchased a AAA Aluminum Sport Utility Shovel one year ago to keep in my car during the winter season in upstate NY. I was so impressed with the quality of that shovel and the reasonable price that I purchased a second shovel when we replaced our second family vehicle this month.
Pros:
-Aluminum construction with detachable handle makes for a lightweight, compact shovel that is perfect for the car trunk. Metal build is vastly superior to plastic when trying to clear mixed snow and ice, and wet snow.
-Handle has two positions. Fully extended, the shovel is long enough to use for spot driveway clearing duty. In the compact position, the shovel is easy to handle around care tires and under a vehicle caught in a drift.
-PERFECT FOR KIDS. I didn't anticipate this feature when I bought it for emergency use, but when my two year old wanted to shovel the driveway with daddy last winter, I gave him the AAA Sport Utility Shovel with the handle in the compact position and he loved it. It's sufficiently lightweight for a toddler to have some serious fun.
-Value. This shovel offers great piece of mind and versatility for less than $20.

Cons:
-Absolutely none.

Verdict:
Lightweight, durable, perfect for emergency use and great for kids. I have one in both of our vehicles now, and I would highly recommend to anyone living in a predictably snowy region.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I wanted (and needed)
Reviewed in the United States on February 21, 2021
I bought this for bike or walking trips around the neighborhood, mainly to clear paths blocked by plowed snow; I wanted something that would fit in a backpack. It does, and I have used it for that, but I've discovered it's also good for clearing small spaces, like around the fire hydrant in front of the house. It fits even in my child-size backpack that I use just for walking (I have a bigger backpack for shopping trips on the bike) and it's not heavy. And the size keeps me from trying to lift too much of this heavy Eastern snow so it's better for my back.

It comes in two pieces, shovel and the other part, but you can also separate the other part into another two for a total of three pieces if you really need to save space. The length of the tube is slightly adjustable with push buttons and here's a TIP to deal with those: Push them in and then quickly turn them sideways. That will keep the buttons depressed while you move the pieces to the hole you want them in. Then you just turn the piece sideways until you see the buttons through the hole; once they're in position they'll pop into place. I had a bit of trouble getting them adjusted at first until I discovered this so I thought I'd save people some time by passing that along.

The tip is getting a bit worn; I can see a bit of metal now. That's probably my fault for trying to shovel ice but the shovel seems so sturdy that I think it'll be fine (as long as I stop trying to shovel ice).
